MS Principals Coffee and Happy Spring Break 2018!!!

Happy day to you and greetings from the UAS Middle School!!!  WOOHOO!!!

I want to begin this message by resending my invitation for the Principals coffee this week. I sure hope to see you there – and bring a friend too!!!

Middle School Principals Coffee

I will host a parent coffee and conversation event on Monday, March 19 in the MS/HS library beginning @ 8 AM. As we think about the remaining days of the current academic year, preparations are already under way for the 2018-2019 school year.  During this Principals coffee, I will share details about the revised staffing list, including the talented educators who are replacing Ms. Beverly my MS Assistant Principal, and yours truly, and I will speak to the activities and focus points we are taking between now and June 28. In addition, the new Director, Mr. OB Sealey and the new Deputy Director, Mr. David Dorn, will share their vision for the future of UAS, and answer parent questions.  I hope you can attend what promises to be an important and informative session.

MAP Reports are Available to Parents

Please note that all UAS students completed their mid-year MAP testing session in February. The MAP assessment is used as a check-in for students and teachers to understand how learning is progressing towards the end-of-year goals. You are strongly encouraged to review the MAP report with your child and discuss how they are growing in their learning.

When looking at data for students, UAS considers both external and internal data to show a full profile of student learning. The MAP assessment is just one source of that learning profile.  For the most up to the minute information, please contact any of your child’s teachers if you have further questions about your child’s learning. If you would like more information about how to read the MAP assessment, please visit this presentation that was shared earlier with parents or the UAS MAP Resource page.

Splash and Dash 2018

It’s time for our students to participate in the UAS Splash and Dash, which is set to take place on April 17th during the school day. Students will swim 200M and run 3K either with a partner or alone. Prizes will be awarded to top finishers of the day.  Only students who sign up for the event will be able to attend, so students who are interested in participating in this fun and exciting event should be sure to register before the deadline of Wednesday, March 21.  Registration links can be found on the UAS Website and in Google Classroom. The cost of registration is 75 AED, which includes beverages on the day, a t-shirt as well as prizes. Also, for those students who are looking for partners, please encourage your son/daughter to ask their fabulous teachers to join in the fun!

Here’s hoping you and your family enjoy some quality time together during our upcoming spring break.  May your travels be safe and your adventures be many.  Until our paths cross again in person, please take good care and peace be upon you.

Spring Parent/Teacher Conference will be Student Led

Last, but not least, parents should note that our annual spring parent/teacher conferences will be held on April 25 & 26.  The big news this year is that this particular batch of conferences are going to be student led. Though the UAS Elementary School has utilized this method of parent conferencing for years, this will be the first time the Middle School has embarked on such an endeavor.  My staff and I are very excited about the opportunity, and enthusiastically anticipate plenty of quality sharing between students and parents.  I will outline more details immediately following spring break, so please stay tuned.

A Fringe Review:  PLUS Stitching Palestine, COA and WWW Exhibition!

Thanks for joining me, because here we are again, in the midst of the energized/organized “chaos” of the UAS Middle School!!!   WOOHOO!!!

MS Fringe Festival Review

On behalf of the entire Middle School community, I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of the parents, students, and staff, who positively participated in the 2nd annual UAS Middle School Fringe Festival on February 28.  Although the wind tried to foil the event, the evening was a HUGE success. Cris Mejia deserves a large “pat” on the back for having the courage and vision to organize and host this first ever “street-like” event.  Many students performed at the various venues, as well as several staff members. The performances included dancing, stand-up comedy, singing, and piano playing just to name a few.  And while there are simply too many people to recognize in this space, the UAS community should be exceptionally proud of our students and staff for their willingness to boldly go where no MS group has ever gone before!  WOOHOO!!!  BRAVO!!!! MABROOK!!! Yeah for our team!!!!!

Stitching Palestine: Monday, March 5, from 5 to 8 PM

The Fine Arts Booster Club is hosting and sponsoring a very special event (TONIGHT) on Monday, March 5 in the MS/HS Library.  This FAB event is an exhibition of Palestinian embroidery and is being held in honor of Women’s’ Week.  An exhibition reception and viewing will start at 5 PM and a screening of the documentary “Stitching Palestine” will be held @ 6 PM.  I look forward to seeing you in the house later today!

Our exceptional students will be honored on Tuesday, March 6 @ 11:00 in the MPH with our first COA of this school year. Hope to see you there!

Week Without Walls (WWW) Exhibition: March 8, 2018

The UAS Middle School will host our first ever Exhibition on Thursday, March 8 @ 2 PM, highlighting the many incredible adventures in which our students participated during this year’s Week Without Walls exploration.  The program is intended to celebrate student learning during WWW and showcase the wide variety of student experiences.
