Introducing our new College Counselor – Ms Carolina Barajas

We welcome the newest member of our UAS counseling team Ms Carolina Barajas. Ms Barajas is joining Mr Cunningham and Ms Mouganie in providing our high school students the emotional, social, academic and college counseling that will support them in their studies and college application process. Below is a short biography:

Ms. Carolina Barajas, College Counselor

Originally from Chicago, Illinois, Ms. Barajas graduated from DePaul University with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a Master of Education in School Counseling. Ms. Barajas also has a Professional Education License (PEL) in K-12 School Counseling.

While completing her Master’s degree, Ms. Barajas worked as an Academic Advisor at DePaul University for five years where she assisted undergraduate students with academic and degree progress, major/minor exploration, study abroad, and career related concerns. It was during this time that she realized her passion for working with high school students and ensuring that students had the necessary knowledge, skills, and support to be successful in their post-secondary plans. Ms. Barajas also has experience working in a College Counseling role at Jones College Preparatory High School.

Ms. Barajas was born in Jalisco, Mexico and moved to the United States at a young age. She is fluent in English and Spanish. As a third culture child, Ms. Barajas identifies with the challenges and exciting prospects that come with immersing oneself into a pool of different cultures. After spending the majority of her early years in Chicago, Ms. Barajas moved to Tokyo, Japan to work as a K-8 School Counselor at Seisen International School. Recently, Ms. Barajas lived in Sydney, Australia to work with young people in need, who were disadvantaged and/or experienced difficulties and challenges which prevented them from successfully transitioning into adulthood.

As the College Counselor at Universal American School, Ms. Barajas is enthusiastic and dedicated to be by your side every step of the way. Ms. Barajas wants to empower students to take charge of their high school experience and college search and to approach both from a very personal and authentic perspective. Throughout the entire college process, she will be there for the students and their families to offer encouragement, motivation, keep you on track, and answer all questions. She is thrilled to be able to pursue her passion of supporting students in their pursuit of their academic and professional dreams.
