Weekly Chat-Back To School Edition

Welcome Back! 

I hope you have enjoyed a wonderful summer. I also hope you are relaxed, recharged and ready to start a new school year. I am so delighted that you are part of our amazing learning community. I welcome and value your positive energy and dedication to excellence in education, and I look forward to working with you and your children.

All signs point to another incredible and productive school year. Our skilled and devoted staff is planning and preparing for your child(ren). Our enthusiastic office team is registering new families, ordering needed materials and updating student files. Our hard working maintenance staff have spent the entire summer thoroughly cleaning the facility.  We are indeed a joyous and caring community with the common goals of nurturing responsible, caring students and promoting high-level learning.

New Staff

Each year brings positive change. This includes a few additions to our staff. We are delighted to welcome Louise Azode to KG1, Xiu Zhang to KG1, Ruth Argueta to KG2, Kimberly Jackson to Grade 1, Simeet Syed to Grade 2, Finola de Paor to Grade 3, Vaanya Alwani to Grade 3, Katherine Potter to Grade 5 and Tina Wolter to Learning Support Services. We are so excited to have them here to share their knowledge and skills with us. 

Student Placement

A great deal of time, effort and thought has gone into the process of student placement for the 2019-2020 school year.  Careful consideration was given to input from staff and families as well as student learning styles. Classrooms have been balanced academically and socially. Our class lists are structured to provide equitable class sizes at each grade level.  Moving students is difficult without causing imbalances and inequities. Thank you so much for being positive with your child and helping him or her understand that it is impossible to place all students with a preferred best friend or teacher. All of our staff works hard to make school a positive experience for All students. Universal American School is eagerly looking forward to enriching your child’s life. 

Thank you for understanding that it can take a few weeks for a child to acclimate to a new grade, peer group and teacher.  Thank you to all who are helping prepare for the new school year. Your commitment to ensuring that Universal American School remains a celebrated and successful school is inspiring. I eagerly look forward to greeting students and families again. It remains an honor and privilege to serve as your principal.  Please stop by and say hello. Together, I know we will make this school year one of growth and achievement for all children.

First Day of School Reminders

  • All parents are encouraged to walk their children to class on the first day so you can help them find their class and deliver their school supplies. Students and parents can come to class between 7:30-7:50AM on the first day. We ask parents to exit the building by 8:00AM so we can start our instructional day.  Most of the time it is harder for parents to leave their children than for their children to be left in school. Don’t worry, we will take the best possible care of everyone.  
  • PreK and KG1 Students will be dismissed at 3PM, and Grades KG2-5 will be dismissed at 3:10PM. Please make sure the teacher knows how your child is getting home.
  • Please remember to pack a snack for each student and pay for school lunches through the accounting department.

Announcements

We are excited to introduce the LEAP program to Elementary this school year. LEAP is a personalized after school learning program for grades PreK-5. The cost is 10,500 AED per year. The hours are 3:00pm-6pm Sunday-Thursday but parents may wish to pick their child up early. On Early Release Tuesday LEAP hours are 2pm-5pm. A hot meal from our cafeteria provider Abela will be provided each afternoon. You can access the registration form here to sign up. ASA information will be sent to parents on Back to School night September 18th including details about offerings and links to sign up.  

ASA Season 1 begins: Oct 1st -Dec 5
