Weekly Chat

In my last Weekly Chat, I listed all of the teachers for next school year.  I realize that some are new and you may not know some of our existing teachers so I have compiled a list of personal teaching philosophies for all teachers.  You can access them  here.  You can make requests for next school year but they are not guaranteed and you must be re-enrolled already.

During the upcoming weeks, the elementary school will begin creating class lists for the 2019-2020 school year. When planning classrooms for next year the students will be divided into balanced groups. Class lists will then be posted before the first day of school.

Creating well-balanced, heterogeneous classroom groups is our comprehensive goal at UAS. Some, not all, of the more important factors in creating that balance include:

  • balanced number of boys and girls
  • strong English skills vs. less developed English skills
  • a mix of students from varying academic levels
  • a good social blend of students
  • representation from various nationalities

UAS is committed to ensuring that your child is placed into a well-balanced classroom.  Thank you for your continued support.

Technology has become an essential part of education across our world. UAS is committed to providing its students the tools necessary for them to be competitive in the ever-changing job markets. We have selected Apple  iPads for our Elementary students and Apple Macbooks for Middle and High school students as these best suit the needs of our students and enable UAS to focus on teaching and student centered learning instead of having to learn how to use the technology.

All students enrolled in grades 5 through 10 will be asked to bring an Apple MacBook and case on a daily basis, as part of their normal school supplies. Grades 3 to 4 will be required to bring an iPad with a keyboard case. Our Apple Education partner, JTRS, has worked with us to provide families with a discount for Apple products chosen by UAS. This discount is available for the entire UAS community though, not just students in grades 2 through 10. All models of Apple laptop (MacBook, MacBook Air, MacBook Pro) not older than 3 years and currently sold are acceptable for use at UAS if the hard drive/SSD drive is 256GB or greater. Parents may purchase a student MacBook directly from our Apple Education Partner, JTRS, and receive an educational discount or may also choose to purchase from another vendor as long as the minimum criteria is met.

Parents may go to the below link and choose from a number of UAS approved MacBooks and iPad. Once the form has been filled out with selections and payment completed, parents will receive an email with further details. Students will be able to collect their new MacBook on student orientation day at the start of the new school year or from the IT office during the school year.

Parents can go to the link below to access instructions for ordering the device.
