Weekly Chat

Since the beginning of the school year, the Arabic department has gone through many challenges:

1)There have been three resignations since September.

2)There have been three new teachers hired for the ES Arabic department.

2)Grades 2-5 were restructured to include Arabic A, Heritage, and Arabic B to group the students in a way they are provided the best instructional practices possible.

3)There was a need for teachers to be more collaborative so they restructured their schedule so they plan daily together.

4)There was a need for more professional development so the Arabic coordinators, administration, and instructional coaches meet with the Arabic teachers weekly to provide professional development regarding best instructional practices including student management and curriculum.

5) Two web resources have been purchased and implemented in all classes to enhance student learning and engagement.

6)All students have been assessed on their Arabic proficiency.

During these transitions, the students have always been our first priority.  Yes, I worry the changes in teachers, curriculum, and classes will affect them but I am confident that we are moving in the right direction.  As an educator who takes pride in ensuring that the very best education is provided to students, I am confident these changes will only enhance student learning not deter it.  With that said, I have now hired the third new Arabic teacher.  Ms. Rabab, a previous teacher at UAS, joined our Arabic team last week.  She will be taking over some classes starting this week so all teachers have a reasonable caseload that allows them to plan quality lessons for all students.  You will be notified if your child’s teacher changes.  I apologize for the late notice regarding this change but it is something that happened very quickly and we did not want to miss out on this opportunity.

This week’s coffee and conversation will be focused on progress we have made this school year and planning for next year.  Please fill out this survey to help us prepare for our discussion.  The meeting will be held Wednesday, February 6th, at 8am in the Elementary library.  I look forward to seeing everyone.
