Week of May 27

Hello Parents and Families of UAS Elementary School!

Ramadan Kareem!

2018-2019 Class Rosters

It is that time of the year that the administrative team in partnership with classroom teachers begin the process of establishing class rosters for the upcoming school year.  As in the past, parental input concerning the learning needs of your child is welcome. Please access this link to a Google Form, Parental Input, to record your needs.  This form is in lieu of the “card” process that had been utilized the past few years.

Please be advised that specific teacher requests will not be honored.  Because there will be fewer homeroom sections at each grade level due to a lesser enrollment for next school year, student “friend” placement will be extremely difficult.  Thus, this item will not be on the Parental Input form (please note the counselors will have significant input into the placement process to ensure students will be socially and emotional successful).

2018-2019 class roster are expected to be posted during the week of August 27th.

All library books checked out by from the Elementary Library (by students AND parents) are due back to the Elementary Library the week of June 3 so that the library staff can complete inventory and prepare the library for the summer. If a book is lost, we ask that you pay the cost of the book (to the library) before you or your student leaves school for the summer. Thank you for your support of the Elementary Library and for reading with your child all year long!  We appreciate your “business”!

Attendance During Ramadan (rerun from last week)

Even though UAS would like all students to remain in school until the last day of school, June 28; we do understand that family circumstances may arise during this time.  School will run as “normal” through June 27th with classroom celebrations and goodbyes slated for the ½ day on June 28th.

If a family chooses to leave early, the student will not be penalized for absences regarding grade promotion.  Though the Progress Report for Trimester 3 may reflect missed assignments, missed assessments, missed classwork, etc.  Please keep both the ES office and homeroom teacher apprised of any change in your child’s school attendance during Ramadan.

MAP Testing Continues and Concludes This Week

Just an update that the first week of MAP testing is complete….students have done quite well!  Thank you parents for your assistance in readying your child for the MAP!

This information is utilized in a variety of manners:

  • The MAP information is utilized by the next year’s teacher to establish academic goals for the beginning of the school year.
  • The assessment provides the school with feedback as to individual student’s performance and potential academic interventions that may be appropriate.
  • A review of the assessment data by grade level teams and school-wide faculty assist UAS in reflecting on its successes and needs for curriculum improvement.
  • This data is utilized in UAS’s KHDA Self Study that provides our school with its KHDA school rating.

We ask that families talk with their child about the upcoming MAP test and promote their child to perform at their best for the assessment.

Grade 2 Musical Class Performance

Grade 2 conducted its musical performance last week…the children were magnificent!  The songs, musical instruments and choreography were fun to see….Great work Ms Worling, Grade 2 Teachers and, most importantly the stars, Grade 2 students!

UAS is a great place to be!!!
