Hello Parents, Families and Students of UAS’s Elementary School!
Welcome to the last week of school prior to the Winter Break! Today, Santa Claus meets and greets grades Pre K through Grade 3 sponsored by the UAS PTSO! The PTSO and UAS teaching assistants have decorated Santa’s Grotto and have a special place for he and our students to meet, chat and share in the holiday festivity. Also this Monday’s, PJ Day is a welcome celebration for the entire ES division…should be a fun and sleepy day!
Last Wednesday evening, the Monthly Parent-Principal Coffee was held. The group discussions were extremely insightful with an open exchange of ideas, thoughts and impressions. Topics touched upon ranged from EC parent support program to Parent-Teacher Conference feedback to a discussion about bullying to a discussion of UAS’s social science program to incorporate the study of students’ home country to 17-18 school year scheduling to informational access. Approximately 6 parents attended this meeting that allowed for a very rich discussion. Based upon the numbers of parents able to attend either the morning or evening Coffees, it is determined that future coffees will be from 8-9 am. The next blog will post the day of the month for Coffees after the ES coordinates with both the high school and middle school events.
Last week our 4th grade class had a special treat. They took a trip, free of cost, to Lego Land! UAS was offered the opportunity to participate in a public relations picture opportunity. The kids and faculty had a “blast”. Also last week was the Gingerbread Man performance PreK through Grade 1 and a KG2 field trip to Kidzania…it was an action packed week!
This Thursday, December 15th, begins the Winter Break with a noon student dismal. School will return on Monday, January 2nd.
As a reminder, ASA Session 1 ended last week. ASA busses are not in operation this week, but do look for information later this week about ASA Session II registration! Our teachers have been busy putting together some wonderful opportunities for Session II which will begin at the end of January.
On behalf of all the staff at UAS, we wish you a very Happy New Year!
See you all next year!
David and Amanda
Please join us this evening in the UAS Multi-Purpose Hall for our monthly ES Principal/Parent Coffee. The meeting will begin at 6pm and last for an hour. Our parent coffee timings alternate between morning meeting times and evening meeting times so that working parents can stay involved in our elementary school. Please take this opportunity to meet and chat with other parents, have a coffee and learn about a range of different things at UAS ES!
Thank you for supporting UAS Elementary!
Dear Parents and Families of UAS Elementary School Students!
Wow, what a week last week! A weeklong celebration of UAE as planned by a group of high school students, facilitated by our ES Faculty and thoroughly enjoyed by our ES students! We hope you had an opportunity to visit the campus during one of the many activity days or able to join us at the Tuesday evening celebration! It was a week to remember…the fun fair, horse rides, cotton candy, the mechanical bull, lessons in UAS history, the UAE all school flag picture taken by a drone, the parade of the UAE Flag though our hallways, diving for “pearls” and on and on…the week was full of fun, educational and informative activities.
A reminder of upcoming events:
- 1st Trimester ES Report Cards will be posted to the Portal after school on Sunday, December 4th at 5:00pm
- Parent-Principal Coffee will be held this Wednesday evening from 6 to 7 pm in the UAS MMPH…please come and join us!
Amanda and I are asking your support in a couple of student management areas:
- We ask that students be at school no later than 7:40. Students who arrive tardy miss the opening of the school day with their teacher and classmates…this is probably the most important time of the school day. The day’s schedule is reviewed, personal contact between teacher-students and student-student, which creates a sound readiness for the school day.
- Roller Shoes – due to safety reasons, we ask that children not wear these types of shoes to school…thank you for your assistance.
- Pokemon Cards – due to disruptions on the playground and in classrooms, we ask that these cards not be brought to school by students. Please keep them safe at home.
Ms. Hana Malek, longtime UAS ES administrative assistant, will be moving to the UAS Middle School this week. Hana’s service for both UAS and ES has been outstanding for the past 10+ years; all will sorely miss her parent relationships, school knowledge and student relationships! Ms. Hana has courageously chosen to expand her professional knowledge and experiences by becoming the Middle School Administrative Assistance…on behalf of us all, we wish her the best of luck in her new venture. Hana will be missed!
Ms. Janel Blackney will be replacing Ms. Hana as the ES Office Administrative Assistant. Ms. Janel held a similar position in the United States and will bring that experiential knowledge to her new role her at UAS. Please give a warm welcome to Ms. Janel! Please stop in the office and say “Hi”.
The ES is in the process of firming up activities for the next 2 weeks of school. Once these act ivies are confirmed, an email and blog post will be sent to update all ES families.
Please have a great week!
David and Amanda
