ASA Session III

ES Class Placement Optional Parent Form

Student Information for 2016-2017
Elementary Classroom Placement
Optional Parent Form

During the upcoming weeks, teams of teachers and the UAS counselors will begin creating class lists for the 2016-2017 school year. When planning classrooms for next year the homeroom teachers and counselors will divide the children into balanced groups. Class lists will then be posted the day before the first day of school.

Creating well-balanced, heterogeneous classroom groups is our comprehensive goal at UAS. Some, not all, of the more important factors in creating that balance include:

  • balanced number of boys and girls
  • strong English skills vs. less developed English skills
  • a mix of students from varying academic levels
  • a good social blend of students
  • appropriate schedule of accommodations for special services
  • representation from various nationalities
  • individual student considerations

We want your child to flourish while attending Universal American School and your input as our partner in education is important.  This optional form is where you can provide additional information to assist the Class Placement Team in the class placement of your child for the 2016-2017 school year. If you choose to provide input for the class placement process, please complete this form and submit it to the elementary school office no later than Wednesday, May 4th. The information you provide will be shared with the Classroom Placement Team, which includes the current and future grade level teams, counselors, and administration.

We respectfully ask that parents do not make requests for a specific teacher. As the school grows, teachers shift grade levels, some leave, and new teachers arrive, the best way for you to provide input into the process is via this feedback form. UAS is committed to employing teachers who are well qualified and able to meet the needs of all students enrolled at the school. Requests for a specific teacher will not be considered, as all UAS students should be able to be successful in any one of our classroom communities.

UAS is committed to providing an excellent teaching team and will ensure that your child is placed into a well-balanced classroom. We will take into account the information you provide when placing your child, however the information provided does not guarantee placement in a particular teacher’s classroom.

Thank you for your continued support,

Patrick Hould
Elementary Principal

Elementary Assistant Principal

Note: Please return this form to the ES office by Wednesday, May 4th.

Family Education has written an excellent article about talking to your child about report cards. Please refer to the article for roadmap about the conversation you should have with your child prior to conferences later this week.

A child’s report card can bring feelings of joy, excitement, and pride; it can also cause concern, frustration, and uncertainty. In either case, the reporting period marks a new beginning to set goals as well as reflect on past work habits, achievements, and hardships. Most important, it is a time for parents to communicate with their children and determine a path for future academic enrichment and social/emotional growth.

We look forward to seeing you and your child at student led conferences later this week!

The Power of Reading: #10minutes10days

To continue to celebrate literacy at UAS, we encourage you to take part in the
#10minutes10days initiative that is being promoted by KHDA.

Screenshot 2016-04-11 14.59.47Did you know that parents who regularly read to their young children report healthier and happier relationships with their kids? That’s because reading gives parents and children the opportunity to spend
quality time together and have more meaningful conversations.

You can join in with this initiative in 3 easy steps:

  1. Sign the pledge promising to read to your child for 10 minutes on 10 separate days on any 10 days between April 10 and May 10 via the website below.
  2. Do it!
  3. Upload at least one photo with you reading to your kids to social media. Make sure to use the #10Minutes10Days hashtag and the #uasreads hashtag.

Winners will receive one free book for themselves, and one free book for their child, every month for a whole year.

For more information and to take the pledge click here!
