Hi there,

I can’t believe we only have one day left!

To those of  you who have left already – safe journey and have a wonderful summer. Stay safe and remember to read lots and lots.

To those of you who have not left yet – your things are in your cubbies if you did not take them home today. Tomorrow all the cubbies and tables will be emptied – pretty please take everything you want to keep home with you.

Moms and dads – thanks so much for all your wonderful support this year. You have fantastic children that you should be proud of. I am very happy with the progress that every child has made. I have had a wonderful year teaching your children – we’ve had our successes and our challenges but we have all grown this year and learnt a lot – especially me!

I wish you all a relaxing vacation.

Have a great evening,

Miss Ryan.

Sunday, 11th June, 2017 – Remind your child to wear pink or white tomorrow.

Hi there,

I hope you all had a lovely weekend.

Please remind your child to wear pink or white tomorrow in honour of the Women’s Rights March that will happen at 8.40am through the school. Five children from our class will represent 4SR in the march. Children may make women’s rights banners to take with them tomorrow on the march – children who are not marching may also make a banner if they wish to.

Please keep reminding your child to bring their device to school with them. We are using throughout the day for different lessons.

Homelearning:

This week’s home learning will be on Google classroom (tomorrow). Children should make a blog post about how the brain works. We have been learning about that in inquiry lessons at school. Today the children carried out an investigation to see how fast their reaction times are. I will put some links for children to find out more about the topic on google classroom that they should read as their homework. When they have done some more reading on the topic – they should make another blog post about the brain.

Math:

Children are learning how to find the perimeter of different shapes and working out how to use a formula for finding the perimeter of a rectangle. They will learn about area later in the week.

Have a great evening,

Miss Ryan.

Math Homework

Hi there,

I meant to give the children their pre-test for Unit 7 today, but they had Arabic at the end of the day and left after that.

Please tell your child that there is revision work for fractions on google classrooms. They do not have to do all of it, they should revise for their test for about 30 minutes.

Here is the link if they can not get on google classroom.

We have not covered least common denominator in Grade 4 so if children have trouble on that section, do not be concerned, as they do not need to know it – however, if they know their times tables they may be able to figure it out themselves.

Have a great evening,

Miss Ryan.

Sunday, 28th May, 2017

Hi there,

Hope you all had a lovely weekend. I hope that those of you who are fasting had a lovely Iftar with your family or friends. Some of the children were telling me about their lovely celebrations in their homes. It sounds like a wonderful time to spend with loved ones. If any Muslim parents would like to come into school to talk to the children about Ramadan traditions in their home/home country – we would really appreciate it. Just send me a quick email and we could arrange a time.

This week at school – children should be at school by 8.18 – that’s when the whistle will blow. Teachers will take children upstairs at 8.20 and classes will begin by 8.30. Please ensure that your child is at school by 8.18. Please keep reminding your child to bring their device and their hat to school.

Children who are not fasting will be allowed to eat snack outdoors until indoor recess begins. There is only one recess time. Children who are fasting will be indoors for recess time. Children are not allowed to take devices to the recess room with them. They may take games from home or books to read.

Math

This week – children will finish off their fractions unit. Their Unit 7 test will be on Thursday. This week they will learn about composing and decomposing fractions and also about finding fractions of sets. Children will solve problems involving fractions.

Language

This will be focused around our Unit of Inquiry. Children will be blogging about their learning in our Unit of Inquiry lessons. In our unit of inquiry lessons children are learning about how different parts of the human body function. After children have done some activities they will be writing  an explanation about how certain parts of the body work. Reading will also be focused around our unit of inquiry.

Trip to Dubai International Academy:

On Wednesday, 31st May, Grade 4 children from UAS will visit the Grade 6 exhibition at Dubai International Academy. This is another opportunity for our children to see exhibition projects and will help them to prepare for their own exhibition next year. We will leave school at 9am and return to school by 11am approximately.

If you do not want your child to go on this trip. Please email me on:

sryan@uasdubai.ae

Thank you,

Miss Ryan.
