We will be having a short assessment on Operations with Decimals at the end of next week. Since the emphasis will be the application of these skills in real-life situations, there will mainly be word problems on the test. All students have received their IXL usernames and passwords over this past week in school so this would be an excellent tool for them to use for studying. In addition to IXL, Learnzillion is also a great resource. I’m attaching a link below to help with all operations with decimals.
This lesson in particular was used in class when multiplying decimals: https://learnzillion.com/lesson_plans/3133
Thank you for your cooperation and enjoy the long weekend!
I hope you had a wonderful and restful Eid break with your families and have come back fully re-charged for school!
I wanted to post a quick update of what we have been learning in Math class so far and what is coming up next.
Since school has started, we have been reviewing place value, rounding and addition and subtraction with decimals. We have done two multiplication quizzes as a pre-assessment for me to judge the fluency of the students’ with their multiples up to 12. We have covered long division with whole numbers and will be moving on to multiplication and division with decimals next, along with the divisibility rules. This will then prepare the students to find the Greatest Common Factor (GCF) and Lowest Common Multiple (LCM) of numbers prior to diving into operations with fractions. Currently, I am focusing on strengthening the skills of the students before teaching them to apply them in real-life situations and in word problems.
I hope to see many of you tomorrow at our Back to School Night and share our curriculum plans for the year.
