Happy last day of school everyone! We have had such a wonderful year in kindergarten! I hope you all have a fantastic summer break. Please remember that today is a half day, so we will dismiss at 12:00.

Here are some summer activities for students to do over the summer:

- Writing journal: Make a summer writing journal and have the students write sentences about the fun activities they do every day.
- Websites for kids to use over the summer can be found here.
- Having time for physical play- running, jumping, climbing, swimming. (www.gonoodle.com is a great website for staying active inside when temperatures are hot).
- Make playdough together with your child (the recipe can be found here).
- Use blocks, puzzles, legos and playdough to build and create with. Encourage your child to maintain focus on the activity for at least 20 minutes and tidy it up themselves afterwards.

- Play-dates with other children.
- Stay on a good routine and schedule.

Grade 1 School Supply List
Please see this very important blog post about Supply Lists and Important Dates for the beginning of the 2017/2018 school year.
2017/2018 Important Dates and Supply Lists!
Welcome to June in Kindergarten! We are wrapping up all our learning at the end of a fantastic year.
Homework: Please note that we will not give out homework during Ramadan. So the bingo chart homework is now finished for the year. (I will, however, continue to send reading books home in their small folders until the last week of school so you can continue to read at home.)
Recess: Please note that this week we began having indoor recess in the afternoon due to the heat. The students do get a short play break outdoors in the morning at 9:20am. However, in the afternoons, all play is now indoors.
Library Books: All library books will be returned to the library on Tuesday, June 6. The students will not check out any new books from the UAS library after that date. Please try to remember to send your library books back on Tuesday. Thank you.
End Of Year Celebration: I have sent a note home with information about our End of Year Celebration in blue folders today. Our celebration performance will be on Thursday, June 15 from 9:00-10:00am. Students can wear their best “party clothes” on that day. We hope to see you there!
Counselor blog: I realized this week that my blog has links to all the specialist teachers’ blog pages (art, music, etc), but the UAS counselor blog is not listed. If you are interested in reading about lunch bunches or social learning at UAS, you can visit the counselor blog here:
Thanks and enjoy your weekend!
Ramadan is approaching soon, please keep note of the school hours once Ramadan begins:
School will start at 8:30am and finish at 1:30pm during Ramadan.
Please note that during Ramadan, the kindergarten students still have both a snack and lunch time so you can continue to send them with both a snack and lunch each day.
This Thursday, May 25, will be our last swimming session for the year. Students will return to their normal PE lessons in the gym next week.
Absence: Please be informed that I will be travelling out of the country for a family wedding and will be away from school from Thursday, May 25-Monday, May 29. I will have limited access to my email while away. So if you have any urgent concerns or questions, please contact Mrs. Finney (email@example.com).
Dear KG2 Parents, please see the below announcements from the Elementary School. Thank you.
Elementary School Dress Down Day to Support Grade 5 Exhibition Projects: May 15th
In support of the Grade 5 Exhibition projects, the elementary school will have an optional Dress Down day on Monday, May 15th. Students may choose to wear blue and green, black, white, OR pink. If students dress down, we ask that they bring in 5 AED to participate in this dress down day.
The Grade 5 students will use the money to:
- promote more recycling within our community (blue/green)
- support families of kidnapped children (black)
- support an organization who has had loved ones impacted by cancer (black)
- breast cancer research (pink)
- support the education of children living in poverty (white)
We are so proud of our Grade 5 students and their Exhibition projects. Please help them take action by supporting their causes by contributing during the upcoming dress down day.
Optional Memory Book Promotion
Students in grades KG1 – Grade 5 will have the opportunity to create a memory book to mark their current time in the journey of life. If you are interested in the Memory Book, please view the slideshow shown below. You will need to sign up online before May 22 and send the required fee to cover the supplies to the elementary office by the same date. Thank you to our volunteer moms for bringing this project forward.

Tomorrow UAS will celebrate Hag El Leila. Students will get small treat bags to take home. If students choose to, they may wear Emirati clothing in honour of the day.
Swimming tomorrow is at the end of the day so students may want to bring their swimsuits and change later, rather than wear it under their school uniform.
Save the date! June 15 will be our end of year kindergarten celebration. More information to follow closer to the date.
The elementary art students have been busy creating artwork for the Drawing by Me project. This is a wonderful opportunity for your child to produce artwork which is then turned into gifts, ideal keepsakes for parents as well as family and friends back home.
Your child’s artwork will be sent home with an order form on Sunday May 7th with an order form return date of Sunday May 14th. This will give us a delivery date of June 12th, well in time for the holidays.
For further details, you can follow this link to a video about Drawings by Me: Drawings by Me
Important Note: If you wish to provide a different artwork than the one sent home, please make sure it is created on a white A4 sized paper, in ‘Landscape’ orientation, and with your child’s complete information written on the back. Please ensure that you include it in the envelope if you are providing new art work.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Mrs. Elizabeth at firstname.lastname@example.org
Swimming: Our first day of swimming in PE will be Tuesday, May 9. We will swim every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday throughout May. Please see the swimming note in your child’s home folder for more details.
Hag El Leila: UAS will be celebrating Hag El Leila on Thursday morning (May 11), and students will get treats. Please see this letter for more information: Hag El Leila Letter for Parents -11uy7c5
Birthdays: Please note that we will not celebrate any birthdays in class once Ramadan begins. If your child has a birthday after May 25 (that includes June/July/August birthdays) and you would like for them to celebrate in school, please email me. We will have one party for all the “summer birthdays” on May 23.
Tomorrow, May 2 we will have the author Julia Johnson visiting us at school to give a presentation about how to be an author!
Please remember to send in 20 dirhams for the author’s fee if you have not sent it in already. Thank you.
Book Fair: Today the students went to the book fair AND it was their school library day. Please check bags carefully, as your student may have both a purchased book from the book fair as well as a school library book. If the students had any change leftover from the book fair, I put it in their blue home folders.
Hats! If you haven’t already, please send a hat in to school for your child to wear at recess.
Student Led Conferences: These will take place tomorrow (Wednesday, April 26) and Thursday (April 27). Wednesday is a half day of school (12:00 dismissal) and there is no school Thursday. Please remember that when you come for your conference, it is your child who will be running the conference.
Author Visit: For our new unit of inquiry, “Books Alive!”, we will have the author Julia Johnson come to visit us at UAS. Please check your child’s folder for more information on the event.
**Looking ahead: Birthdays and Ramadan**
With Ramadan approaching at the end of May, please note that we will not celebrate any birthdays in class during Ramadan. If your child has a birthday after May 25 or a summer birthday, please email me if you would like to celebrate in school. We will have one class celebration for all Ramadan/summer birthdays on Tuesday, May 23.
