Adverts and Advertising

This week, I learned about advertising. Look up at a billboard. It’s an add. Most magazines have many ads in them. Same with newspapers. Ads are pretty much a companies way of making you want to buy their product. Ads are usually very interesting and colorful, another way of persuading you to remember and go buy the product. Some ads also advertise their products only when there is a sale. This is a tactful way to make you really want to go buy a product right away.

I like the ad below a lot because it has so many ways of describing the product, making you want the product right away. I also like this ad because it describes all of the features of the product and more! It is a very creative ad because of all of the exotic colors used in the ad.

The Best of U.O.I.: My Innovation

Do you know how to make an innovation? Could it help?

Our central idea in U.O.I. was The World Changes Due to Natural Process and Human Innovation.

We learned about:

  • How to stay safe from natural disasters
  • Volcanos
  • Human innovation
  • Landslides/Natural disasters

A piece of work I want to share:   (Pictures of my work here)

The Sand Sucker-Upper has 4 tubes that suck up the sand before it gets in the house (2 tubes per wall). It also has a polyester bag per tube (4 bags total). But that is not all! The Sand Sucker-Upper also has an app that rings – with the sound of your choice – when the bags are full and you can dump out the bags and reuse them.

I want to share this work because it shows how I thought about a problem that I have in my home life and I created a solution that could help the problem. So I think this work shows how I was persistent and a thinker.

People of Determination

Do you know what people of determination are? Well here in this post, you can find out!

In school, me and my class have been learning about people of determination. People of determination are people that have something wrong with their body for example they are deaf, blind or can’t walk or use one of their body parts properly.

This paragraph is about some people of determination like Beethoven.

Beethoven is a person of determination because he was deaf. He was not born deaf but he wanted to do many things that deaf people can not usually do. A composer requires hearing so you can hear the music you are making so Beethoven needed something to help him hear better than being almost completely deaf. He used something like this:


Beethoven became a very important and successful composer and pianist. Now, his music is played and is famous all over the world. Many people have used Beethoven as a subject in school music class and many other musicians have used some of his patterns of music in their music.

Writing Reflection

Do you know how to write a story based on ages of planning? Well for me, it seemed like it would be impossible, to make something that long interesting. But I managed to make it work in the end. And guess what! I finished with a 5 paragraph story plus a short epilogue!

In semester 1 of school at U.A.S., we were learning about writing a realistic fiction story. Mine was about a girl called Meilin and her story of how she went to live with her godmother Victoria after her parents split up.

Here is some work I would like to share that goes with the realistic story that I wrote.

Me and Aiya’s……Innovation!

Popsicle sticks, straws, a stack of paper and foam plates, toothpicks, bags and tape on the tables. All for U.O.I. that afternoon. Our innovation project that afternoon was to take normal, ordinary things and make something interesting and new.

Me and Aiya were partners, so we walked over to the material table to see if we could get some ideas.

“Lets get the popsicle sticks, a cup, the foam and paper plates and see if we can make toothpicks work.” I told Aiya confidently.

So we got the materials and went to our table to make a plan. I thought about making a steam looser that cooled the small thing that the our prototype would hold. So first, I had Aiya cut out the middle of the paper plate while I tried to cut out the bottom of the cup. When Aiya was done with the plate, I asked her if she could finish the cup and cut off  the handle. So I then got to work on taping the popsicle sticks together so we could later tape those to the cup later. In fact, I also tried to put toothpicks in the tape, but that turned up a nightmare. They wouldn’t stay or anything.

“Hey Aiya, the toothpicks will NOT work. Not at all.” I reported to Aiya.

When Aiya was done cutting, she began to tape then plates together and later stick the cup onto the foam plate which was on top. Soon, I got to tape the popsicle sticks to the top of the cup. When we were done, we triple-tapped the cup to the plate so it would not fall apart. After, we put it on the table and the groups got called up one by one to take a picture. So here is the story of my innovation! Please comment on what you like and what additions you would have made. I learned that anyone can be an innovator because an innovator is someone who takes things that are already invented and makes them into something new. How do I respect others and myself?

I respect others by:

  • I hold the door open for others.
  • I pick up after myself and others.
  • I say please and thank you.
  • I keep myself and my things clean.
  • I respect others eg. Principals, the cleaner, security guards.
  • I manage my time well eg. go to bed at a good time, do homework a little at a time to get it all done, get up at a good time and eat on time.

These are some ways I respect myself and others.
