Highlights from this week.

Outdoor Centers

Our butterfly hatched this week, the children loved growing them, feeding them, and having them turn into butterflies and flying them around outside. They learned a lot of the life cycle of a butterfly and where they live.

OUTDOOR LEARNING CENTERS– The cooler weather has allowed us the opportunity to do special activities outdoors. Every Thursday, each Pre-K class spends 40 minutes outside in outdoor learning centers. This week children bowled, obstacle course, water painting, and sand pit. They enjoyed learning outside today.

Five Little Monkeys – I think everyone’s favorite activity was making a crocodile puppet (that went with the story- Five Little Monkeys Sitting in a Tree.) FIVE LITTLE MONKEYS– The author Eileen Cristelow, written some very popular children’s books that we read all week. I read them to my own five little monkeys (children) as they were growing up, and now your children are also falling in love with them. They are great ones to have in your library at home.

Open Inquiry Day- Jan 21stPlease have your children wear there YELLOW class shirts on SUNDAY.

BLUE DAY –Wednesday the 31st will be our blue day! Please have your child wear blue and bring a blue show and tell item this week.

Posh Paws Animals– Our animal friends will be coming this Tuesday Jan. 30 We are so excited! Please make sure you bring some food- fruits/veggies/cat or dog food to share with the animals.

NEW PYP UNIT– Our new unit is coming up at the start of February and is under the transdisciplinary theme – How We Express Ourselves. We will be exploring how people have many different feelings and how they express them. This is a great unit that teaches children to understand their feelings and how to express them appropriately. We will focus on the learner profile of caring as we will also begin to think of how others are feeling.

Highlights from the week.

WELCOME BACK- I hope you all enjoyed some special family time over the holiday. My family and I had a wonderful time in Prague. It’s been nice to be back here again too, with your happy, eager little ones!

Our New Student- Joshua

We have a new student Joshua, the kids all welcome him and has had a great time playing and getting to know him.

The kids jumped back into school wonderfully. We are finishing up animal homes and will start people homes this next week. We worked on our bee hives and caterpillars this week.

Our Caterpillars in there cocoons.

CATERPILLARS TO COCOONS–  In our continuation of homes, this week we learned the changes that happen to a caterpillar as it grows. We made our own caterpillars, took them outside to feast on leaves and today they are in cocoons hanging. We are eager to see how long it will take them to change into butterflies! (They drip painted symmetrical wings which will secretly be put on as a surprise.)

***Important***Student dress code at UAS was mentioned in the elementary blog earlier this week. Please make sure your child is wearing the UAS school uniform to school (T-shirt, Jacket, shorts, trousers etc). We are noticing many children wearing non UAS uniform clothing. In the Early Years we are happy for children to be wearing plain navy bottoms if need be due to uniform sizing.

BEING RESPONSIBLE– The children have learned so much this year. A few examples are how well they pack and unpack bags, clean up the classroom materials and toys, wash hands, walk in a line, use an inside voice and most recently, take off their shoes and put them on by themselves. One area you can help them at home is teaching them how to get dressed independently. Many still struggle to put on the art shirts over their uniforms.  With swimming coming up in April, now is a great time to make sure they can undress and dress themselves. Please let them dress themselves every day, so they become confident in this area.

Updates for next week.

OUTDOOR LEARNING CENTERSStarting January 18th. The cooler weather has allowed us the opportunity to do special activities outdoors. Every Thursday, each Pre-K class will spend 40 minutes outside in outdoor learning centers. This week children bowled, played tennis, played with big dinosaurs, hammered plastic nails into foam boards and got messy with plastic animals in the mud.

Posh Paws Animals– Our animal friends will be coming this to UAS. More Information to come.

Decorating the Christmas tree.

I was a short week this week, but a busy week. In our continuation of our homes unit, this week we learned what lives on a farm. The children are having fun making their own farms. We made a chicken and put it on a nest. They had to count out 1-5 the eggs that go under the chicken and put it in the chicken coop. (They cut the string for the nest and painted the chickens).

We got to decorate our classroom Christmas tree, the children had a wonderful time talking about the tree and telling each other who has a tree at home and what they do during this time of year.

Artist of the month project- cut out artwork inspired by Henri Matisse.

Our Artist of the month was Matisse. The children enjoy learning about the artist. They cut pieces of paper and glued them onto white paper. You can see there work in the hallway outside our classroom.

Thanks to our 5 parents (‘sParisa mom, Ellie’s mom, Jasimine and Amani’s mom, Khizr’s mom and Gia’s mom, and Mariam’s mom) who came and helped out with our UAE centers. They took small groups around different activities. Thank you to all the Emirati family’s in Pre-K, KG-1 and KG-2 who brought in UAE foods for us to enjoy.

The fun will continue today from 5-10 pm, so bring the family for more, if the kids are not too tired out already. Don’t miss out on the all new photos on Flickr!

National Day Update

Dear Parents,

To followup on the National Day parent information you received earlier today from UAS, we just want to clarify a few things.

PK and KG1 decided not to attend the outside activities that the Emirati Club has organized. Although these students have done a great job, we felt that most of the activities were not as age appropriate for our little ones. So instead we have organized our own UAE Fun Day for Wednesday. It will be packed full of exciting activities and we want to THANK our many parent volunteers assisting us!

Please allow your child to dress in UAE National Dress or UAE colors (red, green, white and black) forWednesday. Also, send snack and water bottles as usual.

Thank you so much for supporting our Early Years experiences!

Highlights from this week.

We have had a busy and full week.

We practiced sorting objects by shape, color and category.  This week we have been practicing our cutting skill and trying to cut on a straight line.

Qiyni planting her plant.

We planted our plants in dirt and they are growing in the window in class. The children love watering them everyday and watching to see how much they are growing.

Rio, Ellie and Khirz giving there caring box.

We played in the new drama room, the theme right now is bakery and flower shop.

Finally, all of our hard work paid off. We presented our support staff with our kindness boxes. The students were so proud of themselves. They brought in the items, placed them in the boxes, painted the boxes and made cards for each person. Our class was able to fill 8 boxes for support staff. Thank you to the parents for bringing in those items. The students then told everyone thank you and handed them the boxes.
