Highlights from this week.

This week we worked on our Hungry Little Caterpillars and made some wonderful Vegetable Art.  We made our MATMAN’s this week. The children enjoyed  I bought a pumpkin that we will carve next week for Halloween. The kids had library this week and came home with a new book, please read with them this long weekend.  PINK for Brest Cancer Awareness Day, the kids look great in there pink today.

Qinyi Matman

Giuseppe Arcimboldo was an Italian painter best known for creating imaginative portrait heads made entirely of objects such as fruits, vegetables, flowers, fish, and books. If you need to brush up on your art appreciation, you too can watch the video that your children watched.

HALLOWEEN TREATS- On Thursday, October 26th – Pre-K and KG-1 classes will be trick or treating from class to class. As part of the American Halloween tradition, the children will receive something when they knock on the door and say, “Trick or Treat!” We are trying to encourage less chocolate and candy and MORE small treats (pencils, erasers, rings, stickers, plastic jewelry, tattoos, rubber balls, small toy cars, etc). Daiso and The Party Store have a lot of fun treats like this. We would also like to encourage healthy snacks – fruit snacks, raisins, pretzels, breakfast bars, etc. In order for us to have this special celebration we will need each child to bring in individualized treats for at least 30 children. Please DO NOT send any small hard candies or jelly cups (heart candies, mints, etc.) as they pose a choking hazard. We have several children who have severe allergies to nuts so please do not send any products that contain nuts. The children will not be eating the candy at school so you will have a chance to check through it before your child eats it. We are encouraging them to share what they receive at school with their families.
If you have not sent in yet please send in this week.

October 26st – Children to dress up in Halloween costumes that is easy for your child to go to the bathroom, that is comfortable, not to scary and not to hot. Do not send weapons to school please.

There will be a parade at 8:05am that your child will walk in. You can stand outside on the big playground. To make this easier on your child please do not stop and allow the line to move. If you think your child will be upset by seeing you you might want to wait for the pictures that we will post on the blog.

October 31st is Orange Day, please have your child wear something orange to school that day.

Highlights from this week.

I want to say Thank You to all the parents who sent in fruit or vegetables for the class to try. The children loved trying all the new foods and telling me which one was there favorite.

LIBRARY CHECK OUT– This Sunday Ms. Leslie allowed each student to check out one book (their choice) from the library. Every Sunday, the children will be able to take that book home until the next Sunday. They will only be allowed to check out a new one if the return the previous book on Sunday. Make sure to have them take good care of them and spend time reading them to your child. PLEASE RETURN THRER BOOK ON SUNDAY.

MANNERS MATTER- This week we learned and practiced using our best manners, especially when eating our snacks. They are proud to be trying their best to:

  1. Stay in their seats while eating. 2. Eat healthy foods first and 3. Say “please” and “thank you.”

I have had some questions about how snack time works. Basically, the children have a morning and an afternoon 20 minute time to eat their food. We know how important it is to make sure they eat during the day, so we encourage them a lot during this time. I do not allow them to get up before the 20 minutes is over, even if they say they are finished. I encourage them to talk quietly to one another and encourage quiet talking and have table conversation. I ring a bell after the time and they clean up- packing up their own bags. I am proud how independent they have become in this area.  Please enforce these manners at home as well.

GOOD READS
– I will be sharing some wonderful favorite books that are great for your child to have at home. These are stories I read over and over to them. The last 2 weeks our story focus has been The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle. In it we saw the foods the caterpillar ate and the changes that happen when a living thing eats healthy foods.

We got a new student this week, this is Zayed.

IB Man

Dear Parents,

I will start this on Thursday

I am sending IB Man home with your child on Thursday.  Take him with you wherever you go the weekend and have your child be prepared to tell us about his adventures.  Our class is anxious to learn about where he has been. Please write down some of the activities you enjoyed with IB Man in the journal using the IB Learner Profile words that are on IB Man.  Please take pictures of your adventures and email them to me so we can put them in our book.

Please return IB Man on Sunday.

We look forward to hearing and seeing what IB Man did all week with your child.

Sincerely,

Highlights from this week.

Funny faces of my class.

Back to School Bears– As we introduce our new unit Who We Are and are learning how to become independent, we have fun bear activities incorporated into this learning. Our focus story will be Goldilocks and the Three Bears and we will make and eat porridge, paint bears and end the week with A Teddy Bear Picnic. On Sunday 24th, your child may bring a teddy bear or other favorite stuffed toy.

I CAN DO IT, YES I CAN!– This week was a full one where we took every opportunity to teach them the routine and how to use school supplies. And it all was done in a fun way! They are beginning to learn how to unpack their backpacks in the morning, how to pack up lunch bags, how to tidy toys, and the use of art materials. EVERYTHING has a specific way and they are doing well learning to do it independently!

BEARY FUN- While learning how to do all these things, we had fun with bears. Some of our repeated readings were Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? , Goldilocks and the Three Bears and Going on a Bear Hunt.

Reed loved the porridge.

THE THREE BEARS- Today the children mixed porridge, (oatmeal) that we microwaved and got to eat.  Some children had 2 bowls! And almost everyone tried it. We also acted out the story.

NO SCHOOL TOMORROW -OCT. 21st.

HOMEWORK– Please take time to look through the PHOTOS with your child on the side bar from the blog. Enjoy the weekend!

Next Week:

SUNDAY: will be our teddy bear/stuffed animal/doll to bring for our Teddy Bear Picnic on Sunday.  The children will bring their teddy bears to school and we will have lunch outside.

Show and Tell– Next week, we will introduce our Show and Tell time. Each day we allow students to bring in one small toy to share with the class. Please help your child choose one toy/book/item a few times a week. Please make sure it is small, only ONE a day, and they must keep them in their backpacks until we come into the classroom. (No toys/items on the playground.)

COLOR OF THE MONTH -BROWN DAY– Thursday, Sept.28 is our first color day! Please help your child find something brown to wear on this day. The children do not have to wear their uniforms. But please make sure they can use the toilet easily in whatever clothes they wear. If you don’t have brown clothes, it’s fine to have them just pick out something brown to share for show and tell on Thursday.

YELLOW SHIRTS: OCTOBER 5th– Wear your Yellow shirts until the 5th of Oct. On October 8th kids will start wearing their normal white uniform.

BABY PHOTO – Please send in one baby photo (under 1 year) of your child by October 5th for an activity we will do. It should be just one photo, 3×5 to 5×7 size, and not in a frame. We will keep the photos here and use them in the portfolio. You have the option to email me the photo if this is easier.

SEPTEMBER CALENDAR– On this site, you will find the updated September calendar with a few new additions. Each month we will adding new information which will be helpful for the many “special days” we have in Pre-K.
