Dear parents;

Tomorrow UAS will celebrate Hag Al Laila. Hag Al Laila is a day to celebrate the month of Ramadan and promote the values of sharing and giving. Your child may come to school dressed in traditional national dress or any celebratory/party clothes. Third grade will be doing a parade and song and the Emirati mothers will be handing out candy.

Please remember to fill in the survey about end of the year if you have none done so already.

swimming today

Don’t forget we are swimming today. We don’t swim until 12:30. It is awfully hot to wear their bathing suits under their clothes that long, but it is up to you. They will have a chance to change before hand.

Also, many children are saying they are cold in the classroom. It is not that the AC is so high, but it is hot outside so they feel cold when they come in. Please talk to your child and see if they want a jacket at school. It can come back and forth or they can leave it at school, your choice.

Have a great day, Lois

Dear Parents;

No regular school on Wed. or Thu. Your child should come with you for your scheduled conference time. They do not need to wear their uniform. Remember, they are the teacher and will be showing you all of the wonderful things they can do at school.

Next Sunday (April 29th) we will begin PE as our special class. We will have regular PE on Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday. They should wear their PE clothes and sports shoes.

On Monday and Wednesday, we will be swimming. Be sure to send a change of clothes, pool shoes, a towel, swim cap and goggles if they want them.

We will swim on the following PE days.

  • April 30
  • May 2
  • May 7
  • May 9
  • May 14

We will not swim during Ramadan.

Sight word tests will come home today. The children have all made amazing progress. Remember that there are two dates and two colors highlighted. One is the pretest (Feb.) and the other is the posttest (this week). If there is only 1 color that means this was the pretest and they will be retested at a later date.

If they have finished all 4 lists (A-D) they are done with the kindergarten sight words. They can continue to practice reading them, spelling them and using them in their writing. If your child still has some words left to read on the lists, continue to work on them at home and I will test them before the end of the year.

If you want to get a jump start to the grade 1 words, you may go to the website, . Here you will find word lists, flashcards, activities and even a PowerPoint where it will flash the words on your computer at 4 second intervals. Great for summer practice! (even lists for your older children).

I am looking forward to seeing you and your child on Wed. or Thu. You will be amazed at what great students (and teachers) they are!

Cat food drive

good morning,

There is a grade 5 exhibition group that is collecting cat food for stray cats. Ask your child about it. If you would like to send in a package or 2.with your child it would be greatly appreciated. Maybe let your child pick it out so they feel as though they are helping to contribute.

Thank you, have a nice weekend,

Good afternoon,

I have completed my PM reading assessments. I am proud to say that all 21 children moved up a level in their reading books. I sent a certificate home with the children today so they could show you and be very proud of themselves in their reading accomplishments. The reading levels are for you so you know where your child is reading at this point. Please don’t ask other parents or your child what level their friends are on. This is not a competition and children all progress at different rates. We have children of all ages, languages, and previous schooling. No matter what their level, please be sure to heap lots of praise on them. They are all making great progress and should all be very proud of themselves.

For your information the children are considered reading “on grade level” at the end of KG2 when they are reading Level 6 or above. Please remember that reading is more than just reading words on a page. It includes answering comprehension questions, both literal and figurative. They should read with fluency and expression as well as much more.

I hope to finish up the sight word testing at the beginning of next week. I look forward to seeing many of you at the student led conferences Wed and Thu.

Have a nice weekend,

Good afternoon,

Due to PM reading testing and sight word tests there will not be a homework menu this week. Please take the time to read with your child, have them play Razkids or IXL, draw or write.

Thank you,

Dear Parents;

Wow! What a fast week. We had a good first week back and I am so happy to be back with the children.

Please see the dates below. Let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

  • Sunday, April 15th. Beach fieldtrip. Your child will be bringing home a letter today. Please be sure to check their blue folder so you know what they should wear and bring.
  • I will be testing your children on their sight words and PM reading levels next week. Please review their sight words with them before Monday. I am amazed how well they are doing with their reading. Remember they only need to read the words, not spell them.
  • Student-led conferences will be on April 25th and 26th. You will receive notice from the school soon about how you can sign up for your time slot. Remember that this time your child comes with you to the conference.
  • There will be a book Fair April 22-25th. More info later.
  • Ramadan is expected to begin May 16th. Ramadan hours will be 8:00-1:00. (morning whistle will be at 7:45) We will ask that the car children in KG2 be picked up at 12:50 in order to help with traffic flow and the whole school being dismissed at the same time. Bus children will be put on the buses at 1:00, leaving UAS at 1:15. I will send more information as time gets closer.

Have a great week-end,

Beach trip Sunday

Dear Parents;

The beach trip is on Sunday, April 15th 8:30-11:00. I need 3 parents to go with us. If you are free and would like to go with us, please email me.

I will send out more information later but just so you are aware, the children are NOT swimming. They are only able to go into the water up to their knees.
