Happy Halloween

We had a great day today! Full of lots of fun, activities and friends. Thank you to all of you for providing candy and snacks. The kids really enjoyed themselves and were very well behaved.

Please try to send in a cape the next day or two as we will be starting our new Reading Unit and everyone will need their capes to help them become Super Readers!!

It’s finally here! I am sure you have some very excited children, ready for tomorrow. If you come in the morning, please try to take lots of photos on the playground before 7:35.  Parents will not be allowed in the building. I will take a class photo and post it on the blog.

The children will come into the building to do our attendance and get ready for the parade. Find yourself a good place around the cones (remember they are just as cute on the far side of the ropes as at the beginning!)

You should send shorts and t-shirt in their bag in case your child wants to change. We do have PE but Mr. C. knows the kids will be in costume and will plan accordingly. They do not have to change for PE.

Please be sure to send in your food or juice for our party at the end of the day. Thank you to the parents that have volunteered to help with the activities at 1:45.

Please try to plan for an early bedtime tonight and tomorrow as they will be exhausted but happy!!

Sight words

Good morning,

I have assessed your children on our first set of sight words. Sight words are words that children need to learn by sight, not sounding out.  For our first list we are using the 11 color words. They will be bringing home their pretest today so you can see what words, if any, they were able to read. They will also be bringing a bag of flashcards to begin practicing these words at home. They should be able to recognise these words, no need to spell or write them. I will reassess them in a few weeks in order to monitor their progress.

This is just the beginning. If your child is not able to read any of the words, please don’t worry. You will be amazed how quickly they catch on. Just review the words for a few minutes every day.

I had 5 children that were able to already read all 11 words. If your child is one of those, congratulations! I will be working to individualise their word lists in the coming days.

Thank you

I have 5 parents for Monday’s party. Thank you to those of you that volunteered.  Your child chose what food or drink they want to bring for the party.  They will be bringing home a note today. You are welcome to send something else if you would prefer.

Thank you,

Good morning,

I would like to have 5 parent volunteers to help run an activity on Monday from 1:30-3:00. I will have everything organised and prepared for you ahead of time. If you have the time and would like to come and help please let me know.  If you are not able to help this time, please don’t worry. We will have other parties and field trips that you will be able to help with at another time.

Thank you.

Hard to believe it’s almost the end of October already, but it is! That means it’s almost Halloween. Here’s what’s happening in KG2 LF on October 31st.

  • Your child should come to school dressed in a costume. No weapons allowed. They may bring other clothes or shoes to change into if you think your child may not be comfortable in their costumes all day.
  • Early Childhood will have a parade on Monday, Oct. 31st right at 8:00 am. There will be cones set up outside on the playground for parents to stand behind. We will parade past you and then come back into the building. Short and sweet! If you are able to come great, if not don’t worry it is only about 10 minutes long.
  • KG2 will go trick or treating just amongst the  KG2 classes this year. Could you please send one large bag of wrapped candies for us to share? Please no nuts, hard candies or those little jelly cups.
  • We will be having a small class party with activities at the end of the day. I will let your child choose what food they would like to bring to the party but if you would rather send something else that will be fine with me.

We are looking forward to a fun filled day.

Good morning,

I hope you and your family had a nice weekend. Please remember this is a short week, no school Wed or Thu.

This week we will be finishing our initial alphabet sound work. We will be doing the “hard” letters this week. Please practice the name and sounds for the following letters: W,Y,U,V and Qu. After this we will begin looking at ending sounds and then beginning to blend three letter sounds together to form words. There are still some children that don’t know all of their sounds, we will continue to work with them in a small group. I also have a few children that are already reading so they will be challenged as well.

Differentiation is a large part of kindergarten learning. Please don’t worry about where your child falls in this grouping. Just work with them where they are at this time.

In math we are looking at the different strategies we can use when counting objects in a variety of formations. Right now we are working with numbers to 20. Many of your children can count higher than that but rote counting is a lot different than counting objects randomly placed or in a circle!

Have a great week,

Thank you

Thank you of helping your child be ready, responsible and prepared for their swimming class today. They all had everything they needed, were organised and we didn’t lose swim things!!

Please remember we swim again tomorrow. Please don’t let your child wear any jewellery on our swimming days, we did have one lost earring.

My absences

Good afternoon,

I hope you and your family are having a nice weekend.

I wanted to let you know I am sorry I have been out for the past two days. On Tue my husband was having trouble with his vision. He went to the doctor and was diagnosed with a detached retina in his right eye. The doctor said this required immediate surgery. He had the surgery on Wed. afternoon. After a long 3 hours he was out of surgery. He is doing well and the doctor is pleased with how things look and are positive about his vision. He is home now, resting. He requires two weeks of bed rest, keeping his head still and down. We need to go back to the hospital on Sunday to have laser treatment to help further secure his eye.

I am sorry I have missed so much school, I rarely am out as I feel it is so important for the children to have consistency, but with that said, Ms. Naomi has done a great job with the children and my team members and Mrs. Hanna have been helping out. I will be back on MONDAY. Please tell the kids that I am fine, I miss them and can’t wait to see them on Monday.

Thank you for understanding,
