Dear Parents;

I hope you had a nice weekend and everyone is healthy. Let’s hope the flu doesn’t hit the UAE!

This is another busy week for KG2. We have a visitor helping us with our Reader’s Workshop. I will be doing the PM reading benchmark assessment. This is the first time for most of the children so it is very exciting to see the progress they have made in reading.

We also begin MAP testing on Wednesday. If you have not sent in your child’s headphones please be sure to asap. We will have MAP testing next week on Monday and Tuesday right at 8:00 so be sure to be on time as it is upsetting to the children if they aren’t there for the start of the test.

I’m sure your child told you that we started PE today. Please be sure your child wears running shoes every day for the next 4 weeks.

The little community helper poster is something new we wanted to try this year. They can draw or write right on that sheet, no poster board needed. They should try to do as much of it by themselves as they can. It is important for the children to be thinkers and work independently.

Have a great week. Let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Welcome Back!

Welcome back! I hope you had a nice holiday, lots of fun and relaxation. I was lucky enough to go home and see my whole family, my sons, mom and dad, brothers, sister, nieces and nephews and even a cousin! It was so nice to be all together. I just wish it had been warmer!! 🙂

We have had a great first day back. Your children seem happy and eager to get back into the swing of things. Everyone did a great job settling back into our routine and work.

This week KHDA will be visiting UAS. It is a good opportunity for them to see all the great things that we do. There is, however; lots of preparation and paperwork that goes into their visit. Therefore, I do not have the January calendar and newsletter ready for you yet. I will be sure to send it next week.

We will also begin sending “homework” home soon. I will send more information about that when time comes. Many children told me they read their books and practiced their sight words. Great job parents!!

Many of the children forgot to bring their poem notebooks back today. Please try to help them find it and put it in their bags for tomorrow as we will be getting a new poem.

I wish you all a very happy new year and look forward to seeing you soon.

Thank you!

I would like to thank everyone for the wonderful Christmas gifts. The gift certificate is such a thoughtful gift, I can’t wait to go shopping! I also received so many other nice presents.                      Your thoughts, support and generosity mean so much to me.

I am off to Florida on Saturday to see my family, I can’t wait.

Wishing you and your family a safe, happy holiday. See you on the 7th.

Pajama Day

Dear Parents;

A reminder that tomorrow is pajama day! Your child should come to school in their pajamas and slippers. They may bring a stuffed animal to cuddle if they wish. Please be sure they have regular shoes for outside play. Some children are not comfortable wearing pajamas and that’s ok, they don’t have to.

We will not be going to the cafeteria, but I will give the children a chance to eat in the classroom so be sure to send food for them as they are used to eating at 11:00 and will be hungry.

Today I am sending their poem notebooks and a few books to read over the holiday. Please keep them until we return on Jan 7th. Don’t forget they can also use Razkids and IXL. They can also work on their sight words.

As a parent, you are welcome to come to the library and check out books for the holiday.

Report cards will be posted on the UAS portal this afternoon. I would be happy to meet with you after the holiday to discuss any questions or concerns you may have.

I wish you all a happy, safe holiday. See you on Sunday, January 7th.

KG2 Update

Good morning,

I hope you are well. Can you believe it is the last week before Winter break? The year has gone so quickly.

Due to the tight schedule on Thursday we will not be having a big winter celebration. Instead we will just be having a small celebration in class. I was wondering if I could have one or two mothers volunteer to make some plain sugar cookies that we can use to decorate as a treat. They can be round, don’t have to be in holiday shapes. Please send me an email if you are able to send in one or two dozen cookies. Thanks.

Many of you have asked to keep the tens and ones games over the holidays. I think that is a great idea. You are welcome to do so. Also, if you would like a few reading books for the holiday I will be happy to send some home with your child. Just let me know if you would like a few pattern books to practice. I would also like to recommend that you buy your child a small journal (something they like with Spiderman or Frozen… on the cover) and have them write in it everyday. It can be something simple such as, Today I went out to dinner, I went to the shop with my mom. I made cookies with my Grandma…. It will give them a little practice everyday. Please remember not to spell words for them but have them write by chopping up their sounds. It is ok at this point if the words are not spelled 100% correctly, but rather that they used their sounds to write.Encourage them to bring their journals to me when we return in January.

I wish you all a safe and happy holiday!

Good afternoon,

Today your children took the post test on their color words. I am so pleased with the progress that they made. Please be sure to praise your child on their progress, even if they missed a few words. Remember, this is the first time they have ever done something like this.

Next week we will be doing lots of fun things to help celebrate the UAE National Day. It is important for the children to learn about and appreciate our host country. I am still looking for 2 volunteers to help us from 8:30-9:30 on Wed. morning. Please let me know if you can help us out.

Happy Thanksgiving to those of you that may be celebrating this holiday. I believe it is important for all of us to be thankful for all we have with a grateful heart.

Have a nice weekend.

2 Things

Tomorrow is photo day. Please send back the photo envelope.

As much as I would love to have all of the children there, we do need to be wise about their health. If your child is very sick or still has a fever please keep them home. There will be make up photos for individuals, they will unfortunately miss the class photo. If your child is better but still not 100% you could bring them just for the photos or send them in the morning and come and pick them up after the photos. Our photos will be at 9:40-10:05. We need to do what is best for your child and be respectful of others by not spreading germs. Thank you.

UAS will be celebrating UAE National Day on Wednesday, November 29th. There will be a fun carnival set up on the HS playground with lots of fun activities.

  • I am looking for 4 volunteers to come and spend an hour with us, 8:30-9:30 am. I will give you a group of 4 children to be responsible for to lead them around the various games and activities. If you would like to help please send me an email.
  • Your child may come to school dressed in Emirati National Dress or colors of the UAE flag.
  • Your KG2 child will not need any money for the carnival.
  • There will be activities and food trucks for you as a family from 5:00pm to 10:00 pm if you would like to attend.
  • There is no school Thursday, Nov. 30th or Sunday, December 3rd.
  • Classes will begin on Monday, Dec.4th.

Thank you,
