Our Week

Our Week:

We had an exciting week in PreK. We continued investigating our unit of inquiry by looking at the water cycle and weather. We read a few non-fiction books about the water cycle. We learned that through evaporation water travels into the atmosphere and forms clouds. We also learned that water returns to the Earth through rain or precipitation. Next week we will continue to look at the water cycle.

We also read two fiction stories about weather and clouds, Little Cloud by Eric Carle and It Looked Like Spilt Milk by Charles Green Shaw. During free inquiry we continued to explore clouds through process art projects.  One project was painting with cotton balls and clothes pins to make a sky picture.  Another project was inspired by It Looked Like Spilt Milk. The children splattered white paint on blue paper and then folded the paper to spread the paint, making a picture.  We then asked the children what their white picture or ‘cloud’ looked like. Some of the ‘clouds’ looked like butterflies, birds, and airplanes.

This week we also participated in dry ice experiments.  Mrs. Waldo showed us the properties of dry ice and we got the opportunity to explore how dry ice interacts with water, soap, and metal objects.  If was so much fun watching the water bubble and create steam. It was a great experience!

On Thursday, we went to the Grade 2 concert of Harold and the Purple Crayon. We have previously read the story and created our own purple drawings. It was great for the children to see the live show. The children had a fun time watching the show and seeing some of their siblings in the performance.

Looking Ahead:

Swimming- May 29: We have swimming EVERY Tuesday. Please remember to send your child to school wearing their swimsuit.  Be sure your child has a swim cap, a towel, and a change of clothes for after swimming.  We would also suggest that your child wears crocs or other water shoes on swimming days.

Ramadan & The End of the School Year: The predicted dates for Eid-al-Fitr on our UAS calendar are June 14-16; however please note that the exact dates will officially be announced by KHDA.

Pre-K and KG1’s last day of school for the school year is Thursday, June 21st.  It is a regular day ending at 12:45.

Please check out our Flickr page for pictures from this week!

Thank you!

Grade 2 Concert Thursday

Dear Parents,

We will be attending the grade 2 musical this Thursday. The musical begins at 8:15, so students who are here at 8:05 will attend. However, if you would like to bring your child later, they can remain on the playground and enter the building at 8:25. Students staying behind will go to Mrs. D’cruz’ class until the musical is over.

Thank you!

Ramadan Schedule

RAMADAN KAREEM! Our Ramadan Schedule began today. Just a reminder that our morning schedule for PreK & KG1 has changed slightly. Students may not be dropped off before 7:30, as there is no supervision until that time. We will be staying on the playground each morning until 8:25 since the weather is cooler then. YOUR CHILD SHOULD BRING THEIR WATER BOTTLE TO THE PLAYGROUND WHEN THEY ARRIVE AT SCHOOL EACH DAY. There is no need for you to wait for the whistle to blow, and we will do our attendance after 8:25.

Dismissal/pickup is normal 12:45 time for PreK & KG1. Lastly, if your child rides the school bus, remind them that they will be riding a full bus of ALL ages PK-Grade 12.
Also, in PreK & KG1 we continue to drink water and have our 2 regular snacks, so please send in as normal.

Ramadan Starts Tomorrow

Dear Parents,
Beginning tomorrow and throughout Ramadan we are changing the morning schedule for PK/KG1. We will be staying on the playground until 8:30 because the weather is cooler. There is no need for you to wait for the whistle to blow.
Also, car riders should be picked up at 12:45, as usual. (The carpark will be quite busy as the rest of the school is dismissing at 1:00).
Thank you and Ramadan Kareem
