March 24th to 28th

It was a fun week in PreK with our field trip to the Green Planet on Wednesday. Thank you to the parent volunteers that were able to join us on the field trip. The children had a great time learning about different insects and animals that live in the rainforest. It was a great extension experience for our unit of inquiry on insects.

Next week we will be looking at how insects grow and change. We will be learning about insect life cycles. Our focus question for the week is How do insects change?”.

The objectives we will be focusing on are:

  • 8a Listens to and understands increasingly complex language: Comprehends language
  • 9a Uses language to express thoughts and needs

  • 20c Connects numerals with their quantities
  • 21a Explores and describes spatial relationships and shapes: Understands spatial relationships
  • 23 Demonstrates knowledge of patterns
  • 24 Uses scientific inquiry skills
  • 25 Demonstrates knowledge of the characteristics of living things

 

We will read the following books:

  • The Very Hungry Caterpillar
  • Waiting for Wings
  • The Crunching Munching Caterpillar

 

Next week is also the last week before Spring Break. Spring Break is from March 29th until April 13th. School with resume on Sunday, April 14th. Thursday, March 28th will be an early release day for the whole school.

March 17th to 21st

It was a short school week in PreK. We started the week with Student-led conferences. Thank you to all the students and parents that were able to attend. The children enjoyed showing what they are working on at school and the progress they have made in their learning.

Next week, we will continue our unit of inquiry about insects. Our focus question for the week is “What insects are in our community?”.¬†We will focus on looking at insects in our surrounding environment. We will also take a field trip to Green Planet on March 20th to learn about different types of insects and animals.

The objectives we will focus on next week are:

March 10th to 14th

It was a fun filled Book Week at UAS in the PreK class! In addition to our regular reading activities, on Wednesday we read with book buddies in KG2, Ms. McCarthy’s class. Then on Thursday we participated in the elementary Book Character Parade. We had great costumes inspired by our favorite books. Sunday, March 10th and Monday, March 11th are Student-led Conference days, so there is no school for students. Please sign-up for a student-led conference time as soon as possible using the parent portal (synergetic). Your child should accompany you to your conference time as well. Please send me a dojo message if you have any questions about these conferences.

Next week, we will continue to focus on our unit of inquiry about insects. Our focus questions are “Where do insects live? How do they live?”.¬†We will focus on animal habitats and homes in our discussions and read alouds.

The objectives we will focus on are:
