March 3rd to 7th

We had a great week in PreK! Wednesday was sports day. We had a great time participating in the different activities. Thank you to all the parents that were able to come join us and cheer for us. We had a great day!

Next week, we will be continuing our insects unit of inquiry. Our focus question for the week will be “What are the characteristics of insects?”. We will be focusing on the basic characteristics of all insects, including:

  • All insects have three body parts- Head, thorax, and an abdomen
  • All insects have 6 legs
  • All insects have antenna or feelers

The objects we will focus on for next week are:

  • 4 Demonstrates travelling skills
  • 5 Demonstrates balancing skills
  • 10a Uses appropriate conversational and other communication skills
  • 15a Demonstrates phonological awareness, phonics skills, and word recognition
  • 18b Comprehends and responds to books and other texts: Uses emergent reading skills
  • 18c Comprehends and responds to books and other texts: Retells stories and recounts details from informational texts
  • 20c Connects Numerals with their quantities
  • 21b Understanding shapes
  • 23 Demonstrates knowledge of patterns
  • 22 Measures objects
  • 36 Explores drama through actions and language

 

We will read the following books:

  • The Very Hungry Caterpillar
  • Ants’ Nest
  • Under the Lemon Moon
  • Look Inside a Beehive

 

Next week is also the UAS Elementary Book Week. During the week, we will participate in different reading and literacy activities. The week will end with a Book Character Parade on Thursday, March 7th at 8:05am. Children are to come to school dressed up as their favorite book character. Parents are also welcome to come watch the parade on the elementary school playground. Please let me know if you have any questions about Book Week or the Book Character Parade.

February 24th to 28th

Greetings Parents,

Thank you to all the parents who were able to join us for the Sing-Along today. It was a great success and the children had so much fun performing for you.

Reminder: There is no school Sunday, February 24th. 

Next week we will start our new unit of inquiry on insects. Our central idea is “There are many types of insects and each have a role in the environment.”. During this study, we will explore different types of insects, the characteristics all insects share, and how insects change. 

The objectives we will focus on next week are:

  • 15b Demonstrates phonological awareness, phonics skills, and word recognition:Notices and discriminates alliteration
  • 15c  notices and discriminates discrete units of sound
  • 16a: Demonstrated knowledge of the alphabet: identifies letter sound correspondence
  • 20b Quantifies
  • 20c Connects numerals with their quantities
  • 22a Compares and measures: measures objects
  • 36  Eplores drama through actions and language
  • 9d- tells about another time or place (taking about insect walk)
  • 18a- interacts during reading experiences, book conversations, and text reflections

We will read the following books:

  • Under the Lemon Tree

February 17th to 21st

Hello Parents!

Happy Valentine’s Day! The children had a wonderful day filled with Valentine’s Day activities. We exchanged cards and had some treats as well. Thank you to the parents that were able to volunteer today and help out with the Valentine’s Day activities.

Next week we will focus on the following objectives:

  • 12b Remembers and connects experiences
  • 15a Notices and discriminates rhyme
  • 20a Uses number concepts and operations; counts
  • 20b Uses number concepts and operations; quantifies
  • 21a Explores and describes spatial relationships

In small groups, we will focus on sorting & classifying, patterns, rhyming words, and spatial relations as well as bookmaking.

We will read the following books:

  • One Duck Stuck
  • Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus
  • Don’t Let the Pigeon Stay Up Late

Please join us on Thursday, February 21st for our PreK Sing-Along on the early years playground from 8:15-8:45. The children will sing some nursery rhymes and then there will be activities for you to participate with your child. We hope you will be able to join us.

Next week will be the last week of our music unit. Our focus questions will be “Who works with music for their jobs? What tools do they use?”
