November 19th to the 22nd

Our Week:

This week we our focus questions were “Who builds buildings” and “What tools do they use”. We discussed the different jobs required to build buildings and the types of tools these workers use. The children had the opportunity to explore different tools in our blocks center as well. In small groups, we focused on bookmaking this week. We also had our first free flow experience with KG1. The children were risk-takers and went to new classrooms and worked with new friends. We will continue free flow this coming week as well on Thursday. Please have your child wear their red shirt on Thursday.

A special thank you to all our families for coming to Friendsgiving on Thursday. It was a wonderful afternoon and the children really enjoyed the opportunity to spend time with their families and friends.

Look Ahead: 

Our focus questions for next week will be “What are buildings made of?” and “What makes them strong?”. We will look at different building materials and start making our own buildings. 

The objectives we will focus on next week are:

  • 8b Listens to and understands increasingly complex language: Follows directions
  • 9a Uses language to express thoughts and needs: Uses an expanding expressive vocabulary
  • 15b Demonstrates phonological awareness, phonics skills, and word recognition:Notices and discriminates alliteration

November 11th to November 13th

Our Week:

It was a short week in PreK. This week we focused on looking at our school building. Our focus question this week was “What is special about our building?”. We continued to show pictures of our homes. We also talked about the different rooms in our building and how are school is different from our homes. We had two parent visitors, an architect and an engineer, come to our class and discuss their jobs and how they help design and create buildings.

Looking Ahead:

There is no school Sunday, November 18th.

Our focus questions for next week are “Who builds buildings?” and “What tools do they use?”. We will talk about different jobs related to buildings and construction.

The objectives we will focus on are:

November 4th to 8th

Our Week:

It has been a busy week in PreK! We have started unpacking our new unit of inquiry on buildings. Our focus question was “What do the buildings in our neighborhood and other places look like?”. We have been talking about our homes, buildings in our neighborhood, and famous buildings in Dubai. The children have enjoyed looking at pictures of different buildings and talking about the similarities and differences. We have been reading the Three Little Pigs, so we have been talking about what different buildings are made of as well.

Look Ahead: 

Wednesday, November 14th and Thursday, November 15th are Parent Teacher Conferences. There is no school for students. You can sign up using the UAS Parent Portal.  See instructions to book your appointment here.  If you are having technical problems please contact portalsupport@uasdubai.ae. The booking system on the Parent Portal will close on Sunday, November 11 at 4:00pm. Please be sure to select your appointments by that time. We kindly ask that you complete this Google Form (PreK) for each of your children in PreK as well.

You can sign up using the UAS Parent Portal.  See instructions to book your appointment here.  If you are having technical problems please contact portalsupport@uasdubai.ae. The booking system on the Parent Portal will close on Sunday, November 11 at 4:00pm. Please be sure to select your appointments by that time.

We kindly ask that you complete this Google Form (PreK) for each of your children in PreK. This form will provide information to your child’s teachers in order to help them best meet your needs during these conferences.

October 28 to November 1

Our Week: 

This week was packed full of learning and fun. On Sunday, we looked at our new unit which is a study on buildings. The central idea is of our unit is: The construction and use of buildings can transform a community. Monday we participated in the Breast Cancer Awareness Walkathon and kicked off the Dubai Fitness Challenge at UAS. Wednesday was Halloween. The children participated in the UAS parade and then went trick or treating in the early years hallway. On Thursday, we celebrated UAE Flag Day, made Halloween crafts, and carved our class pumpkin. This week in small groups we focused on identifying numerals 1 to 5 and counting quantities.

Looking Ahead: 

We will continue our new unit by looking at buildings in our neighborhood. Please send in pictures of buildings that are important to your child, such as a picture of your home or a favorite place in your neighborhood.

The objectives we will focus on next week are:
