Our Week

Our Week:

This week we continued to look at the water cycle and how water changes. We read two nonfiction books, The Water Cycle and How Water Changes. We discussed how water from the Earth evaporates into the air to form clouds and then water returns to the Earth as rain or precipitation. We also read a picture book about the water cycle titled Water is Water.  The story follows the water cycle by looking at the different forms of water and how it changes as it goes through the water cycle.

We also looked at our artist of the month. Instead of a specific artist, we looked a style of Japanese printing called Gyotaku. Gyotaku is a form of printing that fisherman used to catalogue the fish they caught. To complete our gyotaku prints, the children painted a fish using a paintbrush and black paint. After painting the fish, the children placed a piece of paper over the fish and rubbed gently. We then pulled the paper off the fish to reveal a detailed fish print. The children had a great time painting the fish and looking at their prints.
