It was a great week here in PreK! We spent this week focusing on our monthly concepts. We started the week with a continuation from our pumpkin investigation. Our pumpkin seeds were starting to sprout in the plastic bags, so on Sunday we planted our seeds in cups with dirt. We also read the story One Bean by Anne Rockwell and discussed what plants need to grow. The remainder of the week we focused on our monthly concepts, including our nursery rhyme of the month, our color of the month, and our shape of the month.
We also started talking about our new unit of inquiry, Homes. Our classroom centers have changed a bit to reflect our new unit. We have more building materials out for the students to create homes and buildings. Next week we will start focusing on animal homes by looking at bird nests and farm animals.
November 12th to 16th is the Magrudy’s Book Fair. Our class will visit the Book Fair on the 12th.

Last week we sent home information about the Caring Boxes. In connection with our PYP Who We Are unit, and to show how being a caring member of a community is important, the Pre-K, KG1 and KG2 teams have collaborated on an effort we are calling the Caring Box. The children will be organizing, decorating and filling boxes of a variety of items, to give to our UAS Support Staff members. This will include our bus drivers, bus monitors, cleaners, maintenance, security and a few others. This is where we need your help. We are asking that each student bring in particular items so that we may fill the boxes. We are hoping to fill eight boxes per classroom. We would like your child to go shopping with you to get the items listed on the flyer sent home today. Please send in these items by November 14th.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact me.
Thank you and have a lovely weekend!
