Our Week

Our Week:

We spent this week learning about and celebrating the UAE.  We learned that we all live in Dubai and that Dubai is part of the UAE.  Our centers were focused on the UAE this week.  We had UAE puzzles, pictures of UAE buildings in the block center, and a UAE exploration center.  The children participated in a variety of activities that highlight the UAE as well.  On Sunday, we made UAE flags using hand-printing. On Monday, we created camels using watercolors.  On Tuesday, we created falcons out of paper and feathers.  We also read two stories about the Dubai, Expi Elephant Travels to Dubai and The Camel that Got Away.

Today was our National Day celebration.  The children were divided into small groups and went around to different activities.  Some of the activities included a bean bag toss, creating UAE buildings, UAE bowling, UAE watercoloring, UAE matching games, and UAE yoga poses.  The children got to try all the activities and had an excellent time.  After the activities, the children got to try Emirati food and have a picnic.  It was a wonderful National Day celebration!

A special thank you to the parents, Naydn (Aya’s mother), Heba (Omar’s mother), Qiuxiang (Qiaoyang’s mother), and Amina (Oasha’s mother), that were able to volunteer or cooked food for the children.  We couldn’t of had the celebration without your help and support!

National Day Tomorrow!

Dear Parents,

To followup on the National Day parent information you received yesterday from UAS, we just want to clarify a few things.

PK and KG1 decided not to attend the outside activities that the Emirati Club has organized. Although these students have done a great job, we felt that most of the activities were not as age appropriate for our little ones. So instead we have organized our own UAE Fun Day for Wednesday morning, from 8:30-10:00. It will be packed full of exciting activities and we want to THANK our many parent volunteers for assisting us!
Thank you!
Ms. Lisa

Our Week

Our Week:

It was a fun-filled week here in PreK!  This week we continued to learn about animal homes by studying the different types of animals that live on a farm.  We talked about barns as well as what animals live in a barn.  The children also created their own barns out of paper and popsicle sticks.  We read several books about farms including Mrs. Wishy-Washy’s Farm, Click Clack Moo: Cows That Type, and Barnyard Banter.  As we continue our unit we will also look at animals that burrow as well as beehives and butterfly cocoons.

This week we also learned about our artist of the month, Vincent Van Gogh.  We watched a short video about Vincent Van Gogh’s life and work.  The children then looked at Van Gogh’s Starry Night and we talked about what we saw.  We then created our own Starry Night by using a method of fingerprinting utilizing foil and pressing paper onto the foil to make a print.  It was a fun process and the children enjoyed this different way of painting.

On Thursday, we also handed out the caring boxes to our lovely and dedicated support staff.  The children presented the gifts to each staff member.  It was a wonderful experience in giving back and showing appreciation for others.

Looking Ahead:

Monday, November 27th is yellow day.  Please send your child to school wearing yellow or bring a yellow item for show & tell.

We will be celebrating National Day all week with different activities each day, leading up to the school carnival on Wednesday, November 29th.  Our time for the celebration is from 9:30 to 10:30.  We have 3 parent volunteers, so we would really appreciate it if one more parent could volunteer.

There is no school on  Thursday, November 30th or Sunday, December 3rd.  School will resume on Monday, December 4th.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me at ldornan@uasdubai.ae.

Thank you and have a lovely weekend!

National Day Volunteers

Dear Parents,

We need 4 volunteers for National Day from 9:30-10:30.  I already have two, so we need two more adults to volunteer.  It is only one hour and we would really appreciate your help to make the day fun and safe for all the children.

Please email me at ldornan@uasdubai.ae to volunteer.

Thanks!

Ms. Lisa
