Our Week

Our Week:

It’s hard to believe that September is coming to an end.  Our Teddy Bear Picnic was a success and the children have enjoyed reading stories and learning songs about Bears. Our class favorite has been We’re Going on a Bear Hunt.

Brown day was a fun event for the class.  We enjoyed seeing everyone in brown or hearing about a favorite brown toy.  We made a large classroom poster with different things that are brown.

This week we also started to focus more on our first unit of inquiry, Who We Are- I Can Do It, Yes I Can. We are practicing taking care of our belongs by unpacking and packing bags as well as cleaning up after ourselves.

We have also started to learn about our bodies and its different parts by building a person called Mat Man.  We have also learned a few songs about our bodies, including The Mat Man Song, Head Shoulders, Knees, and Toes, This Is Me, and One Little Finger.

On Tuesday, we visited the school doctor to take our height and weight.

Looking Ahead:

Next week we will continue to focus on our unit and making healthy choices by looking at healthy foods.

We will also learn about our Artist of the Month for the month of September. The first artist we will learn about is Yayoi Kusama from Japan that does exhibitions around the world. One activity she is known for is setting up a room to look like a house and having visitors stick circle stickers around to show that art can be anything.

Housekeeping:

Remember to dress your child in their RED shirts until October 5th.

Please continue to send in baby photos. I have 4 baby photos so far. Please send in or email one baby photo of your child (between 3×5-5×7 size)  for a class activity by October 5th.

We will continue our healthy living unit next week and Wednesday, Oct. 11th, we ask each student to bring in one fruit or vegetable cut into small pieces to share with the class. We will try them all and graph our favorites.

Goldilocks and the Three Bears

Today we finished our mini unit on bears.  Yesterday we had our Teddy Bear Picnic with Mrs. Waldo’s class.  The children enjoyed eating outside and spending time with the other PreK class.

Yesterday and today we read and retold Goldilocks and the Three Bears.  The children then created an art project to go along with the story.  We talked about what happened in the story and what was their favorite part of the story.

Tomorrow we will begin to focus more on our first unit of inquiry: Who We Are- I Can Do It, Yes I Can.  In this unit, we will explore different ways that we take care of ourselves.  We will start by focusing on the human body and healthy habits.

Our First Week

Our Week:

We have had a wonderful first week together!  The children are settling into the routines of school and are having fun getting to know each other. Our focus has been learning the routines and procedures of school, which is incorporated into our first unit I Can Do It, Yes I Can.  Through this unit we focus on building independence and responsibility.

We have also focused on the story Brown Bear, Brown Bear What Do You See.  We have been doing activities with the color brown and bears this week.  As part of our focus we have also read Panda Bear, Panda Bear Who Do You See, and Polar Bear, Polar Bear What Do You Hear.  Next week we will continue with our bear theme by reading and retelling Goldilocks and the Three Bears.  We have also focused bears in our art activities.  The children have made a variety of crafts involving bears and the color brown.  Please check out the our photo gallery or stop by our room to see their work!

Looking Ahead:

There is no school on Thursday, Sept. 21st.

On Sunday, Sept. 24th, we will have a Teddy Bear Picnic with Mrs. Waldo’s class.  Your child can bring a teddy bear to school that day as well.

Thursday, Sept. 28th is our first color day! Please help your child find something brown to wear on this day. The children do not have to wear their uniforms. But please make sure they can use the toilet easily in whatever clothes they wear. If you don’t have brown clothes, it’s fine to have them just pick out something brown to share for show and tell on Thursday.

Housekeeping:

Please continue to have your child wear their Red shirt until October 5th.

CALENDAR– On this page, you will find the updated September calendar with a few new additions. Each month we will adding new information which will be helpful for the many “special days” we have in Pre-K.

Homework:

Please send in one baby photo (under 1 year) of your child by October 5th for an activity we will do. It should be just one photo, 3×5 to 5×7 size, and not in a frame. We will keep the photos here and use them in the portfolio. You have the option to email me the photo if this is easier.

Day 2

Today was a great day in PreK!  We have started Show & Tell in the classroom. A few children brought items to share and everyone enjoyed learning more about their classmates.  We have also been focusing on the color brown and as well as the story Brown Bear, Brown Bear What Do You See.  Yesterday we painted bears with water colors and today the children focused on fine motor skills by creating brown bear tear paper dolls.  Tomorrow, we will continue to focus on the color brown and bears by reading another Eric Carle book Panda Bear, Panda Bear What Do You See.  Check out the pictures from the last two days below.

Show & Tell

Greetings Parents,

The Show & Tell box

We will be starting Show & Tell this week.  Show & Tell is a great activity that helps develop speaking and listening skills.  Please send a small item with your child for them to share with the class.  There is a box labeled ‘Show & Tell’ outside the classroom.  Please place your child’s Show & Tell item in the box when you drop them off in the morning.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask me.

Thanks!

Ms. Lisa

Dismissal Procedures

Every day PreK/KG1 children are dismissed at 12:45. Please be on time and pick your child up at their classroom. Both the TA and teacher have scheduled meetings, planning and lunch to eat!

We do acknowledge that there might be the odd occasion that puts you behind schedule. Here is what that procedure looks like:
*Notify your child’s teacher when you are able to do so but remember that while they have children in their care, they do not check emails.
*Your child will stay with their teacher until 12:55.
*At 12:55, the TA will take your child to the lobby by the main bus doors.
*The TA will sign them over to one of our duty monitors.
*Your child will sit and wait for you in this area.
*The time your child is picked up will be documented.

Thank you for your cooperation on this important matter. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

Sincerely,

Crystal Hanna
Early Childhood Coordinator
