Wanted: 1-3 photos of your child (and family) participating in a celebration

When: As soon as possible

How: Hard copy or email (I will be happy to print them)

Any questions? Please contact me

 Dear Parents,

Our next Unit of Inquiry starts after the break. In January, we will be discussing the theme of how we express ourselves.  The central idea is “celebrations bring people together.”  I would like to gather pictures of the children and their families participating in different celebrations. We will display the photos around the room, and we will be using the pictures throughout the unit to guide discussions.  If possible, please send in between 1-3 photos of your child participating in a celebration, or email them to me, and I will print them out. Please send in at least one photo in as soon as possible. If you have any questions, please contact me.

Thank you,

Kristin Yates

Reading and Writing Wrap-up

Dear Parents,

We are finishing up our units of reading and writing non-fiction teaching books. The children are in the process of publishing a teaching book. For Tuesday, they need to come to school with an idea for a brand new piece. They will have 45 minutes to write and edit. It will be divided into two periods, a 25 minute and 20 minute slot. Feel free to discuss your child’s idea at home Monday to get the creative juices flowing. I always tell the students, “If you can say it, you can write it.”

Thank you for your continued support and involvement in your child’s academic success.

Welcome back!

Happy 2018! I hope all of you had a restful and wonderful winter break!

It was great seeing all the smiling faces return to school today. We are adjusting to being on a schedule again (there were many sleepy children this afternoon).

We shared our goals for the new year and started our inquiry into celebrations. If you haven’t sent in a photograph of your child participating in a celebration, please try to do so by the end of the week (see earlier blog post). Feel free to email them to me at kyates@uasdubai.ae. I will be happy to print them for you.

Math test date moved up

Dear Parents,

The Unit 4 math test will be given Tuesday morning instead of Wednesday due to a schedule change. Please remember to return the pretest on Tuesday instead of Wednesday.

Thank you for your understanding.

Festive Food for Thursday Dec 14th

Dear Parents,

We will have a small holiday party on Thursday morning.

Please send in a snack food that your child will enjoy and like to share with his/her classmates.

We have enough juices, but I’m sure the children would enjoy some hot chocolate.

Please email me or see me at dismissal to let me know if and what you are able to contribute for snacking.

Thank you for making it a fun and festive day!

Farm visit

A great big THANK YOU to Abdulla Aldabal’s family for allowing us to visit their farm! The children in 1KY and 1VJ had a wonderful time on Wednesday. 1KP, 1NS, and 1TT will visit on Thursday.

The students saw emus, oryxes, turkeys, goats, chicks, and peacocks. The greenhouse and gardens are growing cucumbers, eggplants, peppers, and tomatoes.

We had a lovely time walking the grounds, feeding the fish in the pond, and having a picnic. It was a beautiful day and great way to extend our inquiry into the journey of food from farm to table.
