The Bookworm Book Fair will take place inside and in the outside hall of the elementary library April 22-25. 1KY students are scheduled to visit the fair Tuesday, April 24th 12:30pm-1:00pm.
Below is a letter from Dr. Amna explaining the dental screening opportunity at UAS this Wednesday.
Please read the attached letter.
If you would like your child to participate, you do not need to do anything.
However, if you choose NOT to participate, please use the form at the bottom of the letter to let us know.
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Grade 1 students from 1KY will be taking swimming lessons during their PE class from Sunday, April 8th – Thursday, April 12th.
The students will be in the pool under the supervision of a PE teacher, a swim instructor, a classroom teaching assistant and a lifeguard.
The swim program that we used is based on the Canadian Red Cross program. The students will be learning a variety of water safety skills, as well as learning and performing some basic swim strokes.
Everyday students are required to bring in a swim bag:
- a swim cap
- a pair of goggles
- a towel
- a pair shoes that can be worn in the pool area (flip flops, sandals, crocs).
** Since it takes the 1st graders quite a long time to get dressed for swimming, we want the students to come to school with their swimming clothes underneath their uniforms. This means that girls will need to wear a two-piece swimsuit = so they can easily remove the bottom piece to use the bathroom during the normal day. The intention is to spend more time in the pool than in the dressing room.
All students are required to swim during PE whether they are advanced or beginners. Students will only be excused from swimming with a signed doctor’s note for any serious conditions.
We look forward to the seeing your students in the pool!
Spring break is here! I hope you have a wonderful time!
I am sending this letter now because many of us will be travelling. Our last Unit of Inquiry is called “Journeys,” and the students will be studying countries and continents around the world.
They will create and write a postcard from a country of study. In order to introduce them to what a postcard actually is, may I ask you a favor?
If you are traveling over spring break, would you send your child, or the class, a postcard from wherever you visit?
* where you are
* what you have seen
* what it’s like there
* and more!
Mail the post card to UAS FROM the foreign country, NOT from Dubai. This way, we can look at the stamp and date from the post office outside the UAE.
Send it to:
Mrs. Kristin Yates
Universal American School Dubai
P.O Box 79133, Al Rashidiya
Dubai, United Arab Emirates
If you are NOT traveling during spring break, you can still help! Please contact family and friends in other countries. Ask them to send a postcard from their country. Include the same information as stated above, and mail it to UAS.
This is a SURPRISE! Please do not tell your child! It will be so exciting for them to receive mail!
I will collect the post cards as they arrive and share them with the students when the unit begins in June.
Thank you for helping us learn!
