Welcome to a new school year! I’m Katie Williams and this will be my second year teaching in Dubai. Prior to coming here, I was teaching in Shanghai, China. Before that, I was teaching in Colorado. My family and I are thrilled to be part of the UAS community and I am confident it is going to be a great year.
I was born in San Diego, California. I grew up in California and moved to Colorado as a young adult. I earned a Master of Science degree from the University of Northern Colorado. My husband is the 8th grade Science and we have three young children. A son who is three years old, a daughter who is two and a newborn girl who arrived just this summer! I’m still in the US with my baby and I look forward to getting to know the students and their families once I’m back. In the meantime, Mr. Tom Ribadeneyra will be taking my classes. Please continue reading below for an introduction to Mr. Tom.
I am Tom Ribadeneyra (The students will be calling me Mr. Tom) and I am substituting to begin the school year for Katie Williams in 6th grade Science.
I have been at UAS for one year working as a substitute teacher in High School and Middle School finishing up last year working with all three middle school grades on their hot air balloon challenge. Prior to joining UAS, I spent two years as a substitute teacher in Surabaya Indonesia at the Surabaya Intercultural School. Before coming overseas with my wife, I have had a successful career in international product development and sourcing for consumer products. I am a certified soccer coach with both the US and Dutch National teams and spent the last three years coaching varsity and middle school soccer programs.
I am the father to three adult children in the US (two who just graduated with Bachelor of Science degrees last May and the third who is a middle school teacher) and understand the challenges you face as parents. I will do my best to help guide your children to success here at UAS.
Working with the support of the tremendous 6th grade team and with Judy Sweeney and Adam Williams as the 7th and 8th grade science teachers I am confident that we will begin the year with a great science program for your children.
