# Mrs. Beam's Blog

## Dear Parents,

We are excited to be sending home information for IXL today, a web-based math program that your child can explore and do “homework” at home now. Each child has their own username and login.
We will set monthly goals for them to work on. They can always work on more, but at least try to cover the areas below.
Below are the goals for December and January. The letter in your child’s folder will explain more details.
Thanks! KG1 Team

## Repost for December 7, 2017…

I am not sure that my post from Thursday posted correctly, so I am reposting again. Hope this helps! 🙂

Here’s a quick snapshot of our busy week… We began our investigation into the Gingerbread Man! We read books, watched short video clips, colored/cut/pasted gingerbread men, cut playdough cookies, traced gingerbread men, made little books and other activities related to the story. There are many versions of this old tale and we are comparing and contrasting several of them. We will continue next week with some experiments, making stick puppets, mixing/cutting/decorating our very own gingerbread man cookies and a few other things!

This past week, I assessed letters/sounds/numbers/counting/sorting and several other standards and skills… WOW!!! MY HEART IS MORE THAN HAPPY AT THE RESULTS THESE LITTLE ONES ARE

PRODUCING!!! This is the time of year, where the magic begins to happen, light bulbs go off, and just like that, they begin to understand and put all the pieces together!

We have just begun the next set of letters (that you have on your green sheet from conferences). We will spend January and most of February on these next 9 letters. We are continuing math skills in regards to bigger numbers, writing our numbers, more advanced patterns and sorting a variety of ways. Over the holidays, PLEASE let your child practice as much as they want with letters and sounds, as three weeks will be a long time!

• Five Senses Show and Tell- Your child should bring ONE item related to seeing, smelling, tasting, hearing or touching, next week on their regular scheduled day. “If” they choose to bring an item for tasting, please remember no nuts and that individual pieces for 20 students should be prepared.
• Literature Bags will not come home next week, due to the long Winter Break.
• Library books will not come home this week either.
• Thursday, December 14th is another special celebration day! Please allow your child to wear pajamas to school and bring their favorite stuffed animal. We recommend that students wear normal school shoes, as we will still play outside on the playground. Here is a letter to explain more…

• Thursday, December 14th is our last day of school for 2017. Students will be dismissed at 11:45. We will see you back on Sunday, January 7, 2018. If your family is traveling earlier than the 14 or later than January 7, please notify me via email.
• Thank you again for your contribution and time to our Winter Celebration on Thursday. We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did! Have a wonderful Winter break!!!

## November 30, 2017…

WOW… WHAT A BUSY WEEK LEARNING ABOUT THE UAE!!!

This week the children did many activities about the UAE! We created a UAE coloring book, painted camels, palm trees and mosques, made UAE bracelets, built mini Burj Khalifa’s from clay, drew pictures of what we would spend 100 AED on and so much more!!! Mohammed’s mom came and spoke to us about all the changes that Dubai has seen over the years and how it looks so different than when she was a little girl! We learned that the UAE is a combination of 7 Emirates and learned words like abaya, ghutra, kandora, burqa, falcons, dates, etc.  In our centers, the children used their five senses as they explored items from the UAE, smelled different scents, tasted local foods, touched items and watched a video clip on the UAE. We also tried our best to learn the UAE National Anthem!

On Wednesday the children dressed in UAE national clothing and in colors of the UAE flag. Thanks to our 3 parents (Leo’s mom, Nadine’s mom and Jude’s mom) who volunteered to help out with our UAE center rotations. They took small groups around to the 14 different activities. Thank you to all the Emirati families in Pre-K, KG-1 and KG-2 who brought in UAE foods for us to enjoy. There will be LOTS of photos to come!!!
