## Unit 2 Overview

### Math:

• I can add and subtract fractions with unlike denominators, including mixed numbers. (5.NF.1)
• I can rewrite fractions so they have common denominators (5.NF.1)
• I can multiply a whole number by a fraction, including within story problems. (5.NF.4a)
• I can find the missing value in an equation by adding or subtracting fractions. (5.NF.1)
• I can solve story problems where I divide whole numbers and end up with answers that are fractions and mixed numbers. (5.NF.3)
• I can estimate the answer to a story problem. (5.NF.2)

• I can use details from a nonfiction text to determine its main idea. (RI.5.2)
• I can explain how parts of a nonfiction text fit together to make sense. (RI.5.3)
• I can compare and contrast nonfiction texts including events, information, ideas and concepts. (RI.5.5)
• I can use evidence  from a nonfiction text to support my ideas when discussing the text.  (RI.5.1)

### Writing:

• I can create a short research project using several sources to explain parts of a topic. (W.5.7)

### Science:

### Speaking & Listening:

• I can summarize information when it is presented in a variety of ways. (SL.5.2)
• I can participate effectively in different types of collaborative discussions. (SL.5.1)

### Language:

• I can use reference materials (such as dictionaries, glossaries, thesauruses) to learn the definition and pronunciation of important words. (L.5.4c)
• I can use underlining, quotation marks, or italics to indicate titles of works. (L.5.2d)
