Dear Parents,

We had a great week of learning this week. Students worked on choosing a seed idea in writing to take through the writing process in Writer’s Workshop. In Reader’s Workshop, students continued to explore poetic language and explored rhyming and repetition, as well as began their work into understanding the tone and mood of a poem. In math, students continued their understanding of multiplication and explored ratio tables and how they would help with creating picture and bar graphs. Finally, in Unit of Inquiry, students began their research into the culture of a country of their choice.

Please note, due to the rain on Wednesday, our field trip had to be postponed to Monday, November 25th. Students will still attend the field trip at the same time (12:30 – 2:45pm).

Also, due to the rain, we are looking into changing the date of our initially planned Cultural Breakfast. We will send details out to you once we have confirmation of the venue and timeline.

Dates to Remember

November 25th: Field Trip (rescheduled) to the Sheikh Mohammed Center for Cultural Understanding.

November 28th: National Day Celebration (during the school day) & PTSO Thanksgiving Celebration 3:30 – 6:30pm

December 1st-3rd: No school for the National Day Celebration

December 10th:  Santa visits school 

December 12th: Class winter party & early dismissal 

December 13th-January 4th: Winter Break. Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays & Happy New Year!  

Students will be working on the following this upcoming week:

  • Writing – Students will be working on taking their seed idea through the writing process of editing, revising, and publishing.
  • Reading – Students will continue their exploration into poetry by bringing their attention towards the mood and tone of poetic pieces. Students will continue to work on their inferencing skills by recognizing figurative language in the texts they are reading, as well as recognizing words that would help identify the tone or mood of a text. 
  • Math –  We are coming to the end of this introductory unit into multiplication. Students will be completing the post-assessment for this unit mid-next week. To help prepare your child, ensure that they are completing their homework assignments, and are comfortable with basic multiplication using even groups until 100 (ie. multiplication from 1 x 1 to 10 x 10).   • Unit of Inquiry – Students will continue their exploration and research into a culture from a country of their choice. Students will be working towards creating a final product to showcase their learning in either a poster or video format. Students must complete this work in school and present it in class.
