For the coming week…

Reminders

  • We understand that some families may be planning to leave school before June 27th. Please let your homeroom teacher know so they can prepare all the students’ work and projects to go home with them.
  • Our final MAP testing will be Mon., June 17 Language Usage.
  • You will have access to all the UAS accounts throughout the summer (IXL, RAZkids, Edmentum). Just use your login in and password from your homework folder to access your account.
  • This week for homework, we will be sharing the pdf for summer homework by email. Please have your child finish any outstanding work and hand it in this week.

Literacy

This week in Readers’ Workshop: Series Book Clubs.

Classwork Homework suggestion
Sunday We are learning how authors bridge information from one book to another in a series. Students can practice the reading skills using RAZkids, library books, class book shopping books or other books they have at home.

Please allow your child to choose what to read as it promotes enjoyment of reading which will help them become lifelong readers.

IXL Language Arts: O.1, O.2, O.3

Monday Students will describe how the main character has grown or changed.
Tuesday Students will notice how the author paints a picture with words.
Wednesday Students will consider why authors choose the words they choose.
Thursday Students will partner read to share their book series learning.

 

This week in Writers’ Workshop, Scriptwriting:

Classwork Homework suggestion
Sunday Students will learn about character lines. Students can practice script- writing at home using stories they know well, like fairytales.

IXL Language Arts: LL.1

Monday Students will learn how to add stage directions.
Tuesday We are learning to show the actors how to say their lines.
Wednesday Students will practice their lines.
Thursday Students will perform their lines..

 

Math

Classwork Homework suggestion
Sunday Students will learn numerators and denominators. IXL, Math, Fractions, W.5, W.7, W.8

Monday Students will solve fraction puzzles.
Tuesday Students will look at equivalent fractions.
Wednesday We are learning to find fractions of a group.
Thursday Students will review math skills using Edmentum.

 

Unit of Inquiry

Grade 2 will begin a new unit of inquiry called Drama, Drama, Drama. In this unit, students will consider what we need to put on a production of a familiar tale, elements of theatre and begin planning for our production. Students will use what they have learned to write a script.
