Reminders

 

  • Thank you to our fearless parents who came with us to Kidzania. I forgot to ask them to wear earplugs, but they survived the day all the same.
  • Jan. 14 – 17 will be our annual KHDA inspection.

Literacy

This week in Readers’ Workshop, Becoming Experts, Reading Non-fiction:

Sunday Students will be working in their small levelled groups on various skills. Students can practice the reading skills using RAZkids, library books, class book shopping books or other books they have at home. Please allow your child to choose what to read as it promotes enjoyment of reading which will help them become life-long readers.
Monday Students will be working in their small levelled groups on various skills.
Tuesday Students are learning to notice the detail in non-fiction books.
Wednesday Students will be working in their small levelled groups on various skills.
Thursday We are learning to look at the structure of a non-fiction book.

 

This week in Writers’ Workshop, Lab Reports:

Sunday Students will write a small moment story about their weekend using talking parts. Students can practice these writing skills by writing about non-fiction science books, making notes about their learning and writing about science experiments.
Monday Students will learn to write a hypothesis for a science experiment.
Tuesday We are learning to record details from our experiment.
Wednesday Students will share ideas and scientific conclusions.
Thursday Students will review skills learned in the week.

Students can use IXL Language Skills to support literacy. This week, students can do Consonant Blends, C.9 and C.10.

Sunday Students will write a pre-assessment for Unit 4, Measurement. No homework.
Monday Students will practice telling time to the 5 minutes. Students can practice this skill on IXL, Time, Q.5.
Tuesday We are learning to draw clocks, adding digital time. Students can practice this skill on IXL, Time, Q.8.
Wednesday Students will add the weight of two items. Students can practice this skill on IXL, Measurement, S.11.
Thursday Review of skills learned this week.

 

Unit of Inquiry

In UOI, students will begin conducting experiments in our Matter unit. Students will use measurement, lab reports and non-fiction reading to help them understand how the world around them works.
