Library week beginning 17th March

Last week was a book exchange for all classes with it being a three day week! This week Grade 1 and 2 had checkout,

In KG1

  • There are many types of insects and each have a role in the environment.
  • I understand that there are many different types of insects
  • I understand that insects can change in different situations and environments
  • I understand the importance of being yourself  (Reflective)

In KG2

  • I can explore the BF section of the library
  • I understand that books in this section are organised in alphabetical order according to the author’s name
  • I can find books I am interested by looking at the signs in the BF section
  • I am beginning to understand what a” call # is

In Grade 3

  • I can begin to understand how technology impacts our world
  • I can understand the important role Ada Lovelace played in the evolution of technology
  • I understand the importance of resilience as a character trait to be successful

In Grade 4

  • I can make observations to provide evidence that energy can be transferred from place to place by e.g. light
  • I can begin to understand how energy can be transferred in various ways
  • I can refer to details and examples in a text when explaining what the text says explicitly and drawing inferences from the text

In Grade 5

  • I can explain the concept of genre as well as a few characteristics of the Science Fiction genre.

Library week beginning 17th February

In KG1

  • I can describe how the illustrations help me understand the text
  • I can compare texts and say why they are the same

In KG2

  • I can learn a Balinese folktale and describe how I best sleep.
  • I can connect ideas to my knowledge and experience

In Grade 1

  • I can talk about similarities and differences between texts written by the same author.
  • I can  identify characteristics of main characters throughout a story
  • I can express an opinion about a book.

In Grade 2

  • I understand what ‘mindfulness’ means
  • I can be mindful in the library
  • I can feel peaceful
  • I can begin to understand how mindfulness contributes to my health and well being

Library week beginning 13th January

In KG1

I can Identifying the beat
I can identify the speeding up and slowing down elements of the song
I can join in with words and actions for the story and song
I can explore different ways of expressing emotions, including verbal, visual, body language and facial expressions
I can make predictions about the story

In KG

I can begin to understand my responsibility at school and beyond
I can begin to understand the roles people have to help in our school and community
I understand the importance of friendship in my community
I can describe how characters in a story respond to major events and challenges
I can make connections from the story to my personal experience

In Grade 3

I understand that simple machines create forces

In Grade 4

Week beginning 7th October in the library

KG1

  • I can answer questions about key details in a text
  • I can identify the characters in a story
  • I can discuss the feelings of the main characters in a story
  • I can take turns in conversation and respond to a story with comments and actions

KG2

  • I can use actions to express a story  
  • I can begin to retell a story using pictures and actions

Grade 3

Grade 4

Library – Week of September 30th

In KG1 and PreK we are learning to:

  • Experiment with sounds in words
  • Follow actions related to a story

In KG2 we are learning to:

  • Use imaginative thinking to express ourselves

In Grade 1 we are learning to:

  • Practice prediction and story sequencing using a traditional tale
  • ‘Read’ illustrations based on visual clues in a text
  • Understand the areas we can choose books from in the library
  • Use a browser card when selecting a book

  • Understand the central message of a story
  • Explain how characters act when things happen in a story
  • Explain important details about how a story begins and ends

Elementary Library

My name is Miss Kate and I am delighted to be the new Elementary school librarian this year. Miss Grace is our Assistant Librarian. In the library we encourage children to be enthusiastic readers, critical thinkers, skilful researchers and lifelong learners. We love welcoming your children into the library and look forward to a year of learning, having fun along the way!

Your elementary library staff promote lifelong literacy and ‘pleasure of reading’ by offering a variety of informative and interest reading materials at various levels.

Library lessons teach a combination of skills including reading genres, research strategies, and library skills while making meaningful connections to the PYP Unit of Inquiry

Family borrowing!

 

Parents are welcome in the library at any time and each parent has a library account and can borrow up to five books at a time for a period of one week.

The library is open daily from 7.30 – 4.15
