Dubai Fitness Challenge

By now you will most probably have heard about the 30 x 30 Fitness Challenge launched by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai Government and Dubai Sports Council. This “new initiative sees Dubai aiming to be most active city in the world” by encouraging all UAE residents to commit to 30 minutes of activities daily for 30 days, starting on October 20 until November 18.

We are proud to announce that UAS will wholeheartedly be taking part in this challenge. We will be sending a calendar flyer home with your child. We would like to encourage you to get involved and exercise with your child on a daily basis.  Record your activities on the calendar provided throughout the 30 days and then return it to your child’s homeroom teacher after October 18th.

It went so well today but I didn’t get to have kids pack up their artefacts to bring them back home. I will make sure they bring them home tomorrow! Thank you!!

Remember: students wear pink tomorrow! Also, The See How I Grew poster is due!

Thanks everyone.

Some Reminders for this Week!

Please make sure your child brings in 1-3 Artefacts for our Museum that is happening TOMORROW for UOI.

Also, on Thursday, all UAS students can wear PINK to support Breast Cancer! There will be a Walk-a-Thon on Thursday morning! If your child does not have pink, encourage them to be creative to wear something pink on them. I gave lots of ideas in the classroom.. Let’s support Breast Cancer! Students may bring in a donation for the Breast Cancer Foundation if they wish.

Spelling: The Spelling test will be Monday, October 16 so your child will bring a new list with them today! Just wanted to clarify any confusions about spelling. Your child will get new spelling words every 2 weeks after their spelling test. So, they keep the same words for 2 whole weeks. Hope that clears up any questions. The next Spelling Test is on October 31.

Thank you!

Please see below regarding our end of Unit assignment/project. Thank you!

Dear Parents,

On Wednesday, October 18th, all Grade 2 students will bring in and present an artefact to their class. The artefact should represent their understanding of how change happens over time. For example, a student who grew up in Dubai might bring in a lantern to show how lights in homes have changed from olden days. Or a child from Canada might bring in a wooden toy to show what toys were like 60+ years ago.

If your child does not have an artifact that represents change from their home country, they can bring in a photo or a clay model of an artefact.

Some ideas for artefacts are:

-a camel or an abra showing change in transportation

-a wax record or cassette tape showing change in technology

-a traditional coffee pot to show changes in hospitality

-a traditional toy showing the difference between plastic toys today and what children had years ago

-old clothing to show what children might have worn

Students will present their artefact in a museum-style setting, so they should be able to tell others what their artefact is, where it is from and why it represents change. It would be helpful for students to practice their presentation at home with family.

There is a video on Ancient Egypt which explains what an artefact is on Brainpop Jr. Here is the link:

Please contact your class teacher with any questions.

Warmest regards,

Grade 2 Teachers

Reporting Bullying Information

Hi everyone,

Your students were taught what bullying is and how and when to report it by their counselor Ms. Jen. Below is a document that you can use to reinforce or discuss bullying and how to report it with an adult with your child at home. Thank you.
