Dear Parents,

This Thursday, February 1 is World Read Aloud Day! We would love it if you have time to pop in and do a read aloud for our class. Please let me know if you would be interested.

If you have a particular book that you love, then even better! The students really love engaging in reading and especially love when we have guests.

Thank you for your support & happy reading,

Grade 2 Teachers

HI everyone,

Map testing is happening this week. Sunday is Maths, Tuesday is reading and Thursday is Language. The unit 4 Every Day Math test will be tomorrow (Monday) as I will not give the students a MAP test and unit test on the same day.

In UOI our experiments and investigations are going well. Students have a good understanding and application of the Scientific method and can use the words and terms appropriately and meaningfully.

We have some visitors in today to deliver a Science Workshop which is fun!

Keep reading those non fiction books to find information about things that interest you 🙂

Have a great week!

Miss K

Dear Grade 2 Parents,

Can you please send an empty cereal/shoe/pizza box to school with your child before Tuesday 16th January. We will be using it to create beautiful Pop Art. Many thanks to those of you that have already sent a box to school. If you have any questions, please contact me at etyrrell@uasdubai.ae.

Thanks.

Happy new year 2018!!

Hello everyone,

I hope that you all had a fantastic holiday. Three weeks is a long break and there are quite a few sleepy bodies around today.

With regards to spelling, the students have completed all the  second grade high frequency words and this week we will begin to look at the Words their Way program. The students are going to be grouped according to their spelling level (the test focuses on sounds rather than whole words) so students will learn a spelling pattern rather than a word in isolation.

A reminder that students are able to bring extra reading books home from the class library if they wish, but they are responsible for organising this themselves. I am joking with them, that now they are Grade 2.5 and soon will be in G3 and so we need to get them super independent.

The homework and newsletter is coming home today for your reference, but the spelling list I will send with your child once I have explained their spelling pattern.

I hope you’re having a great Sunday and again, happy new year and all the very best for 2018 🙂

Miss K
